This is kiddy stuff, and really doesn't belong in TRP, but fuck it, I'll throw some advice from way back when:

Go alone.

A girl that has you from the get go is secure. You're already ball-n-chain'd. A girl that goes with her friends when she wanted to go with a man is willing to do much, much more for that opportunity. She's desperate and she doesn't have nearly as much time to seal the deal. She'll throw a lot more on the table. If not full-fledged sex, hey, at least you're getting a blowjob. Work your way up from there.

Or you could just brainstorm with some buddies and use the prom as the stage of a fucking epic senior prank. You've got your 20s and onward to chase skirts. Be a kid, for fuck's sake.

What I think is funny is that they actually, genuinely think that there's something in this for the guy.

Very, very occasionally there is - when I was in high school I went to a dance or two with a girl just as friends, hoping to meet a different girl there. But that's a rarity - mostly they're asking you to do all the work, go through all the social awkwardness, for no reward. This is because for them, simply going to the dance is itself a reward - whereas for most guys most of the time it's not.

Should have bought the set for a couple since you are planning to ask someone. Even if you weren't you should have bought a pair of tickets for 2/3 the price and sold one to another single guy.

So fucking do it. I don't know why people make a big fucking deal about asking people to prom. Jesus Christ.

Also, I was asked to prom freshman and sophomore year. I didn't pay for tickets, pictures and we rode in a limo someone else paid for. The only thing I paid for was alcohol, a tux and a corsage. Junior year and senior I paid for dinner, dry cleaning and alcohol. Always got a set of pictures from my date or her mother.

In this case, it was more to do with competing with other girls (look who I caaaaaught sistaa! ;)), the fairy tale image similar to the wedding day, and for the sake of not being single while her friends are taken. That would ruin her self esteem and reputation now wouldn't it.. :'(

Again, no actual consideration of the guy, it's all about their own little world. Once the party's over, the guys get ditched and she resumes her daily routine.

Girls publicly say that they love getting approached by guys. In social even or even alone. Now is this true ? Let's test it online !
Take a girl you find attractive on facebook and who has friends in common with you. Send her a message neutral and not cheesy (no pickup lines). "Hello, I saw that we are both friends with XYZ, how did you meet him ?". Neural message without any dating potential. How many girls will answer it ?
Second approach, more direct : "Hey, I just saw that we are both friends with XYZ, you look gorgeous, wanna take a coffee sometimes ?"
From those who will answer, how many of them will call you a creep or a pervert ?
From personnal experiance, 90% of the answering girls were hostile in their replies (from thos who replied obviously).
So what girls want publicly and what girls do confronted to the situation is totaly diffrent.
