Lurker here, not very experienced. So I’m not fully sure what happened the other night. I got a girl I met through a dating site to meet me for drinks. The night went pretty well and we were getting along, though in a ‘good first impression’ way with a second date all but assured. When it was getting a little late we head home and eventually end up in front of my building. It was a little out of her way and she had playfully said she'd walk me home.

Now at this point, my apartment was a mess so I don't really want to invite her in. I know this is a screw up but it was a long week, and I had no expectations of finding myself in this situation. I stall for a little bit, not sure what to do exactly, then I commit to a kiss. She kisses me back for about 10 seconds at which point she says, "That was good... (starts to walk off) …I'mmm gonna go now..." And she just walks off, no good bye or anything. I manage a quick 'I had a good time' which she gives me a quick ‘yeah’ without really stopping her walk. At this moment it’s very clear to me that I pushed the situation too far and she needed to get out of there, ending it all very quickly (not even a good night). I go inside feeling pretty bad for dropping the ball so thoroughly.

The next morning I had a txt from just after I went to sleep from her: “Just wanted to let you know I had a good time… talk to you soon” I’m not really sure how to line this up with how the night ended in person. What would explain that? I think I may have messed up (besides the whole apartment a mess deal) and not fully sure how to proceed. My current plan is to try to get her to meet up again sometime soon (dinner?), but my confidence (in this matter) is fairly rattled. Is there anything I should keep in mind or do going forward?
