How do you break your AA?

Talk as soon as physically possible, like as you're sitting down. Say "hey" like you do it all the fuckin time (Pro tip: do it all the fuckin time).

Then you can open with something easy like "What are you studying/reading?"/"What class is that for?"

Then she responds, and you say "What the hell is that?"/"I had that professor last semester..."/"I've heard about him. Someone told me his hair was purple?"/"This is actually the first time I've ever been in the library"- say shit that's guaranteed to get a response, preferably not just a yes or no answer. And just keep going from there.

Try to find an opportunity to get closer to her if you can- ask her for help or something, even if you don't need any. Or take an exaggerated interest in whatever she's doing and find out more about it. Additive's suggestions aren't bad either- you're a cool, confident, playful guy, and you're higher value than her, so you say shit like that all the time. [Except for the buying coffee part- that's a little too bold for my tastes and can easily backfire.]

Edit: Also, treat her like she's a friend, like you guys already know each other. So if there's shit you would say to a normal friend (who's preferably a girl) say that shit to her. It gets you much more comfortable with each other much faster. Joke around about stuff, tease her about stuff, and ideally, get her to stop caring about whatever she was doing beforehand.

The three-second rule. If you don't open a set within three seconds of seeing it, you will overthink it. It's far better to open too many sets than not enough.

I was listening to an episode of the pickup podcast and this guy Orleans, I believe, said that before going out his friend used to take a black sharpie and wrote "pull the trigger" on his forearm and when he would feel like that he'd read it and man the fuck up and just pulled the trigger. He liked this idea so much that he got it tattooed on his forearm. He doesn't use it just for pickup but for other aspects of his life too. I've been trying to live with that in my mind too!

AA never completely goes away. Approaching sucks and will always suck. Just plow through that shit. Approaching and getting turned down is better than not approaching, imo. It will always feel a little awkward, but as you get practice, it'll be less awkward.
