This might belong in r/uniseddit, but I don't think whatever wisdom comes out of this will be exclusive to college students. Also, I'm fairly new to this, so I apologize in advance if I fuck up the lingo at all.

Last night I was at a party of an acquaintance of mine. Nothing too crazy, but it was fun and I was enjoying myself. However there was an HB8.5 who was just standing in a corner texting he entire time, looking kind of disinterested. Now, I'm not ugly by any means (maybe a 6 or 6.5/10) but I'm still recovering from a VERY awkward adolescence and normally I would have told my self she was out of my league and not even bothered. But I was feeling pretty good and her isolation made her more approachable. I knew that if I didn't at least try I would regret it the next day, so I approached her:

"Not feeling like being social"

"No, I'm just taking care of something"

She put away her phone and after that we really hit it off. At one point she said in passing, "I always end up hooking up with random guys and then regretting it the next day." I feel like maybe I should have taken that as a more serious warning than I did, but given that she had instigated nearly everything I simply thought, "I'm probably not the first guy she's said that too, and I doubt I'll be the last" and decided to play things a little cautiously. Then suddenly, without warning she says, "It's way too early for all this. If we don't wait an hour I'll really regret it tomorrow." Then she breaks off the conversation and starts talking with some other people, and I do the same. About 20 or 25 minutes later she comes up to me and says, "Let's go for a walk. And I actually mean a walk." Despite that last part, she puts her arm around me, and we leave.

We walk and talk for a while, then we stopped talking and just walked in silence. Eventually she stops and turns to me and we start making out. After a while I ask if she wants to head back to my place. She lets go of me, takes a step back, and in a very angry and accusatory tone says, "You were assuming I was going to sleep with you this whole time!" Maybe there was something I could have said to defuse the situation, but I was completely blindsided and just told her I hadn't assumed anything. Then she stormed off.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly what I did wrong here.
