Just keep at it, it's ok to come off as rude, just don't give a shit.. if you start giving a shit it's when it matters, if you don't give a shit, then the girls don't care either. However, if a girl is offended and says something like "You're an asshole!" and makes a scene, just next her and move on, do not engage her, this could lead to trouble.

You're going to mess up a few times, just try to keep it light at first. Instead of saying "you only have two friends" which is insulting, maybe be like "I should call you guys curly, moe, and larry, you're always fighting"

maybe they are reading too much into it: such as your joke about 2 friends, she may have read it as 'I am sick of hearing you talk about your 2 friends. Do you have any more interesting stories?' Regardless don't worry about it and if she can't take a joke then you probably aren't compatible anyway... At least that is how I view it.

Both of those examples sound totally fine, so I'm assuming either you were just doing too much of it, or she can't really take a joke. This is also one of those things where I'd really have to watch you in action and see how it comes across while you're actually saying it. Especially with that second example, I can picture myself doing it awesomely, but at the same time I can picture a ton ways where your inflection, tone, or even the way you laugh might give the wrong impression.

I don't want to tell you to be more cautious with it (because it's the main thing I do, and I tend to be pretty bold with it). Even if you've heard the same thing from multiple girls, as long as they weren't too serious about it, it probably isn't much of an issue.

Also (though my comment probably should've ended already), this might be entirely context-dependent. Meaning, with this last girl, this was your third date and maybe you spent a good part of the last 2 making jokes or something- or being more immature in some way. Especially if you haven't been intimate with her, that can totally ruin her perception of you. So watch out for that too (not saying that's what you're doing, but just in case).

Plus you're right about the online stuff. These girls on average are likely to be less secure and less experienced (and if they're less experienced in general, they're probably a lot less experienced with teasing). Like I said though, the examples you gave were perfectly fine unless there was something "off" about your body language or whatever.
