I've had issues with everyday normal social interaction for a few years now. It's gotten to the point where I don't have a social life at all any more. I lost the friends I had too. They didn't have my problem, or at least that's how it appears to me. I also stopped relating to them, felt like they aren't on the same 'level' as me. They had girlfriends and larger circles of friends and it all kind of made me really more withdrawn and feel more ashamed for not being able to do normal things like be able to talk to girls and get girls to like me etc.

I've been trying to do better, and have done a little better, since I read The Game by Neil Strauss. But I still have pretty serious problems. For instance, clubs are just a nightmare for me. Neither are any other places with lots of people who are more confident than I am and who are looking to have a good time in a sociable environment. So parties aren't fun either. I've had experiences where I just sat there without saying anything and gone home to constantly replay it in my mind and feel like shit. so eventually I started not going, to avoid it. I just get extremely self conscious and close up in this kind of situation and I now realise that I get very un-likeable and can come off unfriendly or like a loser. I cannot seem to have fun in these situations because I am too stressed and I can't even think straight. I can't hold or initiate conversations with anyone, let alone an attractive girl. I can't even smile when someone smiles at me.

My family doesn't know how badly I feel in the normal social situations, but even they've asked me to go see a counsellor after seeing how I much quieter and withdrawn and socially isolated I've become over the past few years. I'm 22.

I was just wondering whether others out there were able to overcome this kind of problem using pua methods. Or am I going to need therapy?
