Men are easily overwhelmed and turned off by attachment and neediness, much like women. But men, like women, admire persistence. Be casual, confident, and persistent. Do not let a conversation die out. Do not lose eye contact when speaking. Try to get alone with them. Smile. Put your hand on his chest when you laugh.

An old quote I like to believe is true goes something like this "Men wish to be admired, whereas women wish to be appreciated." Bland compliments mean nothing to a girl, however a simple compliment can really ignite a man's heart (and ego). If you can compliment a man in such a way to make him feel confident about himself, he will most likely relay that confidence onto you (perhaps with a date!).

Start with targets that present no sexual tension. Women, children, old people etc. Practice being friendly. Talk to everyone. Find ways to start conversations. Look people in the eye and smile. Go out and say hello to a bunch of strangers. Skip the hot sexy men for now. They will flock to you once you become a little confident and friendly

my theory is that a lot of young women don't realize that they need to send obvious signals of interest to guys, or they don't know how to send signals of romantic interest. many female friends i've had who weren't good at getting dates all acted like men should just approach them out of the blue without needing any inviting signals, and worse, many young women actually believe that all men make an approach towards every woman they are attracted to. they think that men aren't attracted to them because men don't make approaches, all while they avoid all eye contact and conversation with the men, keep their headphones on in places where you could meet a new stranger, and basically do everything to repel strangers according to our culture's etiquette.

you've got to send signals! try consistently smiling and making eye contact with a guy you like, and STAY consistent. the first time you smile at him, he might not think anything of it because he doesn't want to be that creepy guy who misinterpreted friendliness as an invitation. once he catches you smiling at him a few times, the data will be undeniable, and he will make an approach if he's at all confident and available. you'll be amazed with how positively men will react when you show them that you're interested and not threatened, even if it doesn't always lead to something more.

yesterday, a strange girl opened a conversation with me in my building's elevator when it was just the two of us. all she did was ask "what's on floor 11?", and suddenly, there was no more ice. at first i was thinking, "don't be rapey, don't be creepy, don't freak this girl out with unwanted male attention, SHITSHITSHITSHIT...", but she let me know that my attention was desired by asking something relevant to me. just look through the sidebar for indicators of attraction that men look for, and do those things. the rest will come organically with people you are compatible with.

Don't say No to a conversation even though you have NO IDEA what to say and the guy is ugly as fuck. It gives you practice and him self-esteem. Just my 5 cents.

After you have some practice you can yourself start to approach and open males.

I recommend meeting men at bookstores and the library. if you are kind of shy then it might be best to start off in a peaceful setting that encourages topics and subjects to talk about. these are also less aggressive spaces usually.

Judging by the content of your post you already know exactly what you need to do. You described all your own flaws. Now go fix them. Practice makes perfect. Don't expect to become a great conversationalist over night. Don't get discouraged by setbacks. Just keep practicing and look at everything as a learning experience.

I'm 21, male and never even had a girlfriend, i am HIGHLY shy and prefer staying out of places where there are loads of people. People take conversations for granted and it makes me smile when a girl just strikes up a conversation even if they aren't interested in me. My advice is to talk to someone that seems shy and start off with abit of humour, preferably in my case i'd love it if a girl would approach me with a film quote. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the advice, It was helpful. Basically I need to leave the house and start engaging with people. Smiling, talking and not being afraid to approach a stranger. I have to get over the fear that it might be awkward and I might feel rejected or embarrassed.

Make an okcupid account and get guys to fawn over you. You can get dates very easily, will probably max out your account even if you are average looking.

Its free, you can keep your personality, and find someone who likes you for who you are. Of course you can be used by those guys for sex as well, but they're generally upfront about it. And most people there are more desperate, so in general your odds of getting goods are excellent although the goods may be odd.

Even if you do stuff IRL, make an online account. It will boost your self esteem and it doesn't hurt to have a fallback.
