Help for times when I don't have a wingman

I've successfully gone solo 4 or 5 times in the last month or so. They resulted in two flcloses and plenty of kcloses and lots of numbers. Here are some things that I focus on:

Venue is key. Try to pick a bar that will be at least moderately busy and if possible in close proximity to other bars so if it's a ghost town you can make a quick exit and easily proceed to the next venue. It also helps if your familiar with the venue. Just being somewhere you've had success before can do wonders for your confidence.
Don't go too early. I prefer to wait till around at least 11 or 12. I prefer it to be busy enough to be able to walk around the bar withouht being that 1 guy walking around the bar.
Bum cigarettes. By far the easiest way i've found to start chatting someone up. I'm not a smoker, but after I get my drink I always head straight to the patio and bum a smoke. 8/10 times it will easily transition into conversation.
Own being out solo. Don't lie or saying your friends are coming later. Own not being ashamed of it and people will respect you for it and often try to help you find girls.
Talk to everyone- Guys, Girls and Groups. When talking to a group I often get invited to join them for the rest of the night. Even though I typically decline its nice to have a group of fallback friends to have fun with.
Pump yourself up before you go out. It can be very easy to walk into a venue and without your friends to push you, become overwhelmed with AA. I always smash a redbull and turn up the music on my way to make sure I walk in feeling like a million bucks.

I love the solo game and usually have better luck solo than with my friends because i'm making more approaches and don't have an excuse to give into AA.

change your mentality, if you think its awkward, it will be awkward, if you think its an opportunity to grow beyond yourself and have fun, then thats what will happen

Just don't give a shit about the fact you are going out alone. You will always find someone to talk to. Go somewhere familiar (knowing the bartenders might help you get at ease). I have really bad AA which I'm working on (I'm 21 and in my country you can legally drink at 16) but somehow I've never felt weird to go out alone. For example when I plan to meet up with friends at a bar, I would go 30 minutes early just to get into the mood. When my friends arrive later on and text me to ask where I am waiting, I answer: inside. They always answer: alone? You're crazy/ you're brave/ you have guts to enter a bar alone/... This is an indicator most people are afraid to go in alone, but look up to/respect people who actually dare to go out alone. You also immediately have a subject to start the concersation. Just give it a try, maybe drink something before you leave your house, put your favorite song on while driving and just do it! Good luck! :-)
