Good list, I've noticed lately I tend to always try and speak rather than listen, and when I do listen, the majority of the time I tend to not take in What they say if I'm not interested in the response. I should definitely work on that.

They duck the spotlight so it shines on others.

Perhaps it’s true they did the bulk of the work. Perhaps they really did overcome the major obstacles. Perhaps it’s true they turned a collection of disparate individuals into an incredibly high performance team...

In real corporate life those at the top are masters of claiming the spotlight on the shoulders of those without "confidence" and who "did the bulk of the work".

I agree with the lion's share of his points, but I would lengthen the title to: "9 Qualities of Truly Confident People, As Presented In a Work Setting". I would agree with 100% of his points in a work setting, and I see those points validated by many confident people I've worked for and with. In a social scenario, the message behind these points are still 100% spot on, just not all of the details.

I disagree with one of the other top comments on how "passing the limelight onto others is instruction for how to be beta". The assumption this comment makes is that you recede into the background after passing the limelight, but the point the article was making is that you share and hand praise to your teammates. A star NFL quarterback during a winning season interview will (hopefully) lay some serious praise on his teammates, even if he knows he may have carried the team on a handful of key games or plays. You watch that and you think "now there's a class act", you don't just immediately cast the guy aside who made the compliment because he told you to give praise to someone else. Think back to when you were shy (I sure was) at a party, and your more confident buddy dragged you into the kitchen to meet some girls. He opens them so they're paying more attention to him. They might compliment him, and he would say something like, "haha maybe so, but you should see THIS guy do: -insert same skill they just complimented him on-" while throwing his arm around you or tapping his elbow your way, trying to get them to focus your way (being a good wingman). 10 times out of 10 those girls just wanted that confident guy even more, honestly they probably couldn't give a shit you could do that same thing better than him (and maybe you ARE really fucking good at that one thing and you never tell anyone). The way the girls processed that exchange was "this first guy is playful and sure of himself, the second guy-- he's cute too I guess just really shy". His praise on you, although with good intentions, also happens to bolster the pheromone aura of confidence in himself, which gets sucked down the nostrils of the girls and ends up doing you a disservice.

If I see a girl giving praise to other people (in any scenario), especially if I knew through some other means that she busted her ass to get things done, I am immediately more attracted to her, and I have the exact thought I mentioned above, almost word-for-word: "good god she's a class act, she could have easily taken credit for that". And it's exactly because of the reason the article describes. I instantly view her as more confident and attractive because of how little she seems to care about being perceived as hard working-- she knows she's hard working and that's what matters.

A lot of blanket statements. This is that sort of "sounds good to me" logic that humans love.

"Confidence is not bravado, or swagger, or an overt pretense of bravery. Confidence is not some bold or brash air of self-belief directed at others.

No, that's just one way of being confident. One could easily be very rude and confident. You just wouldn't respect him. All you are trying to say is that the 'generally respectable' version of confidence is the silent kind. However, contrary to popular opinion, there are varying degrees of what people look for in life and in other human beings. People can't be limited to this way of life simply because it 'sounds right'.

In my opinion, people need to follow what they personally believe is correct, not what some guy on a blog thinks is right (propaganda). It's a masquerade.

Truly Confident people have one quality:

They have a high opinion of themselves

Seriously this just reads like propaganda to make you into a good person. Putting others down is morally wrong, but doesn't rule you out from being truly confident.
