I was a club in Korea yesterday with couple of friends. If you didn't know, Korean girls are very hard to pick up, because breaking the ice is harder in the Korean society. They also tend to hang out in groups, so it's hard to pull one's attention out of the group. I had so much trouble trying to catch a girl's attention on the dance floor, that I would almost always end up leaving empty-handed.

But yesterday, my friend's friend did something incredibly simple but extremely effective to get the a girl's full attention. He isn't even attractive or tall, but this one technique helped him score many numbers: Casually tap the girl on the shoulder, and when she looks at you, just smile and wave.

9 out of 10 times, the girl who was tapped (no pun intended) would look up, meet eyes, smile, and wave back (or bow). That simple. Very harmless and casual, and shows you are friendly. If the girl doesn't wave you back, then you have really nothing to lose, because that means the girl is simply a b*tch from the start.

I was astonished how easy, yet effective this method was. I tried pulling this method as soon as I learned about it, and like a lie, I was able to score a couple of numbers from attractive girls (knowing how to speak to the girl on the dance floor is a different topic). I also enjoyed just dancing with the girls I waved at, since we did meet eyes and acknowledge each other.

Give it a try, even if you are shy. The more you get to wave, the more you will realize that most girls aren't emotionless beings. Girls appreciate when guys show interest in them in the gentlest way possible.

TL;DR: Tap a girl in the back, and just wave at the girl. If she smiles and waves you back, you are already 50% closer to her number.

EDIT: This method works best with people dancing in the middle of a loud, crowded dance floor, and want to catch her attention there.

TO clarify how I tap a girl on the shoulder, I don't straight up creep up behind her, feel her body while smiling like a rapist. I simply approach next or in front of her while dancing, and wave first. If she doesn't notice you waving, then you gently tap her shoulder/arm (just to get her attention) and wave again, and keep dancing with her this time.
