Breaking down the distinction between a hang out and a date

But enough with the specifics, I'd like to hear your thoughts on hanging out vs. a date. Is it more in the intention or the way the activity is presented, or both?

The distinction between "date," and "hanging out," is that "date," has baggage attached to it that often lead to expectations being placed on the event that can often make it more difficult to get to a good outcome.

Whereas "hanging out," is advantageous because it lacks expectations but still affords one the same opportunities to show interest, to escalate, etc.

Another difference is that a lot of guys get hung up on calling something "a date," as if it will make things easier, when what really makes things easier, is taking action....... taking real risks like escalation. You can call it date all you want but it won't help you make a move, and if you can't manage that, it doesn't matter what you want to call it, the label won't save you from the friend-zone.

My general definition is, if one of you thinks its a date (or has romantic feelings for the other) then it's a date.

If you're not sure if it's a date or a hang out, in my opinion, you've already been friendzoned. That or we're debating semantics.

If you're taking a girl out who you have feelings for, and she has feelings as well - it's a date. If you have feelings, you take her out, and she tries to call it anything other than a date, you're just a friend to her (ie she doesn't want to call what you have a relationship - I guess that doesn't exclude casual sex necessarily, but I still stand by saying that she wants nothing long term out of it)

I guess its up to you, depending on how much you escalate will determine weather it was you two hanging out or you two being on a date.

Make sure you take alcohol with you to more, ive noticed girls are a lot more flirty once they're tipsy. And the setting you described defo sounds like a date, just NEVER bring up the word "date" to her. It will come across as needy
