It hurts because you care too much. Why do you want to be with a girl that is not interested in you? Don't be so needy, my friend. Do you realize the huge amount of women that exist in world we live? Chances are youll meet more beautiful and smart women than that ONE girl that didnt get to discover how fucking awesome you are.
Move on Shes not into you, thats enough reason for you to stop thinking about the idea of having something with her.
If you dont stop caring so much about what the next girl youll meet thinks about you, rejection will still hurt. Stop having that sellers mentality, have the buyers. You are not selling yourself to her; you are talking to her to see if you really like her to the point that you'll invest some time in that girl.

Yes. She may have been initially interested or just doesnt want that type of relationship with you. Dont cut her off like she does you, but always have other options and show her shes at some risk of losing you if she doesnt seem interested. Don't be needy and move on.

I actually felt that way once upon a time, until I realised that there are other hotter girls out there who i could be fucking instead of chasing 1 girl that never will. There is an abundance of girls, so why not make use of it?

Ok i'm just going to address the title question
Rejection hurts so much because you have failed to not getting what you strive to achieve. Simple as that. The problem at the moment for you is what you consider an achievement. In this case what you want to achieve is all reliant on her by getting her to let you kiss/have sex/talk to her/ect. Instead make all your achievements your own. The best example of this is instead make your goal "I have to approach a girl today and say hi". That goal does not matter if her reaction is "fuck off" or "Hey, lets go to my room and have sex", both situations you have achieved your goal. So you need to change what your goals are to more internal action based.

You should try not to take her actions personally. This is difficult because these situations make you vulnerable. Still though, you need to remember that it's not a reflection on who you are. You know (should know) that you are a desirable person, if she doesn't see it then that doesn't say anything about you, it says that she can't see it. Her loss.
What's more, don't assume that you know why she rejects you. You can't know unless you ask her. There are so many factors at work here that it's more like flipping a coin than it is up to anything else. Yes, there are things you can do to improve your chances but you can only do so much.

Move onto another girl, this one is a waste of time
It hurts because you take rejection as her saying "you don't cut it for me." You start questioning your value as a man, your attractiveness, etc. If you're rejected and adopt the mindset of "whatever bitch, your loss," then you probably won't get hurt so much by rejection.

It needs to hurt otherwise you won't learn from it: https://www.joshsway.com/articles/view/the-sting-of-rejection-is-good
