How do you keep conversations going indefinitely with people that you have few-to-no things in common with?

Creating conversation with people I initially know nothing about is a big part of my job. I work with tradies, federal police, hospitality workers, retirees, nursing/paramedicine students, military, support workers, public servants and more. It is critical to my success that I can maintain a casual conversation in front of everybody with at least four people (it creates a natural feeling and they're more likely to buy stuff from a "friend"). Every day I say to fifteen or more people "Tell me something interesting about yourself".

Usually people respond with their job description. If it is something I'm familiar with I'll have a canned response. If it is a duplicate I'll say it isn't interesting enough and ask what they do with their spare time. If they stumble to describe anything they do outside of work they are labled a workaholic for the rest of the day. People who simply cannot come up with anything interesting about themselves get asked what they had for breakfast. If they didn't have breakfast, I will conclude that they are in fact an international super spy trying not to blow their cover.

Key point here: if somebody has something they spend the majority of their time doing, they probably know a whole lot about it and can be pretty interesting once you get them started. Once you get that ball rolling, you can appear to be an expert on the issue just by paraphrasing their own content back at them. It doesn't need to be a shared interest. If they don't have anything they are passionate about and you still need to maintain a conversation for reasons beyond your current entertainment, make up shit about them and pretend they are a whole lot more interesting than they are.

This is more general conversation advice than getting chicks- try Toastmasters. And practice. Even if you're just grabbing groceries or a quick trip to the bank, make quick convo with the cashier or security guard.

All I want to point out is that you really just need to start taking to new people. I say hi to neighbors, talk in elevators, chat in line, say hi to co-workers a lot etc. That and over the past few months I've been on several dates. Think about things you were initially scared to do... then did a few times, only to realize you got over that fear and were comfortable. I've held conversations with so many girls on dates, even ones that were boring with little substance, that I know my experience can carry me through it.

Okay, one more point. It's also understanding that you don't have to make a point or get your story in. Not everything has to be 'tell me yours and I'll tell you mine.' Talking about your college degrees? Is she talking about something interesting like psychology class? Don't worry about having to fit in the classes you're taking... ask her a few questions and provide your thoughts on something she said. You're on seduction, tell her you're interested in the psychology of dating. Feedback.

So far everyone has given you conversational advice, which has nothing to do with seduction.

Stick with routines, they work. Use them as a bridge to thread into other topics.

I won't give you any routines because there are plenty out there. Some of the most effective stuff is some of the oldest stuff.

You don't. If you have nothing in common with someone, you almost can't have a conversation. The trick is, you have something in common with everyone. You might like music and she likes sports, but you also might have grown up with a single father, or you both like traveling. Or you hate traveling. You just need to dig a little and find something to talk about. There's always something in there somewhere.

Say what's on your mind. A conversation I've had with a girl was pretty much dead but I just randomly said I bought Ed Sheeran tickets today Cause it was on my mind and it got us talking more.

Say something about the environment around you. Look around you. Is there anyone wearing any interesting? Any thing that looks cool around? Make a statement. It might lead somewhere. "That guy has a sick haircut" "Wow that's an ugly color for a car"

Use silence. Conversations need two people to work. sometimes y oh gotta shut up to make them put in work. If they don't toss the ball back either they don't want to talk or they suck at conversations. Use your judgement.

The advice given here is great for making new friends. Not for picking up chicks.

Talk about subjects you can go on forever about. Then make it relevant to her.

Talk about sex. Who doesn't have anything to say about sex?

If you're a raging narcissist like myself; talk about yourself. I love going on dates. The girl has to sit there and listen to me talk about my life and at the end of the date she sucks my dick. What's there not to love.

Don't worry about talking so much and worry more about flirting ;)

Having a conversation is like starting a lawnmower. Sometimes you have to pull the cord a few times to get the engine going, but once it gets going it will just run on its own. Similarly, when trying to have a conversation you have to pitch a few topics and get them going on something that interests them. It may not work; they may simply not be interested in talking to you, or the topics you pick may all suck. But usually I can get somebody going on something within a few minutes. Just try to read them and figure out what is interesting to them. Once they start talking its all smooth sailing.

Listen, relate and expand.

Take mental notes of the nouns they use, try to find an personal experience that relates to that, expand upon the topic and get her input. Rinse and repeat.
