Better to ask her on something where there is no uncertainty. Stop being afraid of rejection, take her out at night for a drink to a romantic place where it's obvious it's a date. Make your intentions known versus spending time doing something platonic and risking getting friendzoned.

seems like a one way ticket to the friend zone. not a date, then you're just a pair of friends going to get coffee and hanging out.

No. She will most likely be either upset that you lied, or just confused about the situation/your intentions in general. I can't see this being any benefit.

Meeting for coffee is so boring and cliché that I wouldn't call it a date, even if your intentions are not platonic. In my opinion, a date is fun and (consequently) memorable, and there shouldn't be any question on either side as to whether or not it's a date.

Idk man. I asked a girl for drinks on Wednesday night and she responded with it's a date. So I'm sure she's looking for a relationship rather than fun.
