Realizing that the core of pick-up is "Being not doing."

Most resources focus on teaching you a bunch of techniques and tricks. While these can be useful, they don't address the core issues.

Books which teach the correct internal mindset to have from the start are:

Models by Mark Manson
Fundamentals of Female Dynamics by Michael Knight
No More Mr. Nice Guy by Robert Glover

Look at pick-up as an all encompassing self-development process for becoming a better man, instead of doing specific actions for the purpose of trying to get a certain reaction.

Texting is great if you're a teenage girl. Adult men should keep it to the minimum. Women don't respect men who text, or talk, too much.
Approach. There is no reason not to. Women respect men who have the masculinity, the assertiveness, to come up to them and start a conversation.
Eye contact melts a woman's heart. A man who maintains good eye contact is respected by women. It shows you're strong and it shows you're interested in her.

Exercise often, eat well, find a hobby and get good at it, practice the opinion-openers, test your opinion-openers, and don't move on to the next phase until you've mastered the current phase. Work on improving self-esteem even when you believe your self-esteem is rock-solid, try to improve on it more.

Learn the art of actual conversation. Talk to people in such a way that they feel better for having spoken to you. Get them to talk about themselves, and the things they love. (Read How to Win Friends and Influence People)
Improve yourself. Look in a mirror. Would you date you? Are you interesting, do you have hobbies, a life of your own? Or, are you looking for someone to "complete you," i.e. help you escape yourself? Bring something to the table.
You are not going to win everyone. Women (or men, whatever is your bag) are not games that reward sex with the right strategy. What are you really looking for? Casual sex? A good amount of partners to determine what does and doesn't work for some future long-term relationship? The ability to use sexuality to manipulate people? All of these can be done, but if you don't know what target you're aiming for, you can't possibly hit it. Check in with yourself. What do you want.

Read "the game" by Neil Strauss. That man explains everything perfectly. And everything in the book is true. There are learners and there are naturals, there are people who just wanna get chicks, and people that just wanna settle down and get married. Honestly the real goal is to find someone that makes you happy, and you want to be with, regardless of the endgame. And everyone has a hole in our soul that we all try to fill somehow. But what it comes down to is learning how to talk to women, develop a connection with them, and becoming a better version of yourself.
