Depends in what type of restaurant you work. If you work in a low-culture fastfood kind of place then you can. If you work in a classy restaurant I personally wouldn't.

The main question of course is if your boss is cool with it.

I'm a server at a high volume nicer restaurant in a resort town and I close my customers pretty often. It's to late to go out and flirt and drum something up by the time I'm off so if I don't get a number while I'm working I've got very little opportunity. Get good at it. My bar manager just called me the Barney Stinson of our restaurant hahah

I would say it's fine as long as you work your way up to it. Gradually increase how much flirting you do until you know where the line is very well. This is your employment.

Never give your number. Never push the line. You could get on horrible terms with your employer really easy. But by all means flirt and gun to be offered theirs.

Depends. My initial thought is unless you're already very good at detecting attraction (doesn't sound like you've really developed the instinct yet) then you're walking a fine line. Either way, keep it really chill, don't sexualize your banter unless she starts, or not at all. If you're 100% sure you can ask her out without being awkward, then sure.

There are lots of problems that can be created from dating women at work. You never know who you're going to piss off and how it can backfire.

This is where the "abundance mentality" really kicks into gear. There are hundreds of women out there, do you really need to be hitting on the ones you work with and will have to see every day?

This is a question to ask yourself and ultimately consider if dating women from work is worth your professional development and future opportunities with the restaurant.

A good alternative to hitting on them would be to befriend them and get introduced to their social circles.

Used to work at a bookstore. I was really shy and it was my first real exposure to women I didn't know on a regular basis. Even though I never number closed I regularly chatted up customers and had a couple of instances where I know now I should have gotten a number, but I was too scared to progress any further. It is possible, and wasn't really frowned upon (one of the girls I worked with regularly hit on male customers).

depends what restaurant. if its really fancy and you wear suits and shit then hell no. if its something like McDonald's...well i dont think you would have said "restaurant". if its something in betweeen, like a TI fridays then id go for it. those mid range food places usually have a fun type of vibe anyway so flirting between employees wouldnt be frowned upon.

You can game in all circles of life, you just need to be strategic. Girls care ALOT about perceived social status. This has an evolutionary root, back to them needing to build bonds with others to help them when they are pregnant and need assistance naturally. So to avoid this auto-matic NO threshold you simply need to isolate her away from co-workers or (if it's a customer) away from your co-workers and her party aka if she is up paying, or walking back from the restroom etc. catch her alone for a moment. The 2nd way, is to simply write your number down on a paper, talk to her tell her she's cute and slip her the paper. I've done all of these things, and it works for hitting on girls who are working too. ;) GLHF ~Xrispy
