I work in the NHS in the UK and have been in healthcare for many years. I regularly see women being taken more seriously than men are. Not just for serious concerns like cancer (and I see that regularly), but for less serious illnesses as well. Keep hearing about how men are complaining about "man flu" when they are genuinely unwell.

But if I say this out loud, I would get into significant trouble.

Being a white younger adult male really sucks and probably even more so because I live in MN where we are one upping California in our march towards socialism.

I and probably many others feel like I'm just waiting to see what happens next. Almost as if there's going to be some big event in the near future. We are on the sidelines because we have literally zero say or respect as if we are not the people who pay the lions share of taxes.

It's hard to make decisions when you think everything is about to change.

Men fighting to protect women, children, and their countries. 80% of suicides are men, 80% of the homeless are men, men are more likely to be imprisoned and have longer sentences for the same crimes women commit. Majority of victims of police brutality are men, men are more likely to be victims of violent crimes. Men are more likely to be falsely imprisioned. Men have no reproductive rights, men have no child support rights, men have no child custody rights, men have no alimony rights. Men work more dangerous jobs, men are more likely to die on the job. Men are less likely to go to college, men are less likely to get scholarships, men are more likely to drop out of school. Men are more likely to be divorced by women. Men have no abuse or domestic violence shelters, men are more likely to be alcoholics and drug addicts, boys are less likely to be adopted. There have been more male slaves than women historically. Men die earlier than women. Men are overwhelmingly more oppressed.

This is a media issue moreso than a research issue. In the first part of the research articles discussion can be read: "Drawing upon GBD 2021 estimates, we identified persistent health differences between females and males across the top 20 causes of disease burden over the last three decades. In 2021, overall, males faced a higher disease burden than females. For 13 of the top 20 causes, including COVID-19, road injuries, and a range of cardiovascular, respiratory, and liver diseases, the DALY rates for males were higher than for females. Females showed higher age-standardised DALY rates associated with low back pain, depressive disorders, headache disorders, anxiety, other musculoskeletal disorders, Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, and HIV/AIDS than males. These differences highlight the importance of taking into consideration the different health needs of females and males across the life course."
So in conclusion the article itself aims to, and succeeded in showing that health and outcomes are affected by which sex you are, and therefore medical research should take this into consideration. Then media disfigured it into the monstrosity that was published in The Guardian.

Also men don't go to the doctor or report symptoms anywhere near as often as women, so take these comparisons with a grain of salt.
