Honest poll for the people in this sub: In spite of being male advocates(leftist male advocates that is), do you still think in an unbiased manner men’s accomplishments and contributions get highlighted far more than women’s?

Exceptional people are highlighted in media and due to higher variance within gender for men, this means statistically more exceptional humans that are men. On the other side this also means statistically more men who commit awful things and this is also brought up in the media. Oddly enough, this flip side of the coin is something that is not deemed desirable.

However, I think that historically there have been exceptional people who have not received the recognition they should, and this group includes a lot of women. I think this needs to be understood so that in the future we might do better, to learn from the mistakes and unfair values of the past. Due to aforementioned statistics however it would not make sense to strive for parity by intentionally skewing standards, but understand that people receiving attention are a small group of exceptional individuals (in good or bad), that should not reflect on the value of the groups they belong to.

Anyone who thinks they are not FAR more likely, just moderately more likely, equally likely or even less likely can answer with "NO".

The framing of the original question makes the answers pretty useless, unless the result is a productive discourse in the comments...

Men are more extreme in general for better or for worse. There are simply more men worth praising than there are women, just like there are more men in prison. That being said women will still receive a fair amount of attention simply because of their gender, so despite not making up the majority of what we call "successful" people, they disproportionately get attention and respect. The downside for this is that women are navigating a hierarchy of their own with different levels of competence. The end result is that people distrust the abilities of successful women on the grounds that they probably had a lot of help to get there, and are not fairly competing with men, but other women.

You worded the poll badly in my opinion.

Were you trying to say: Do you think men are praised and celebrated more than women and that this is fair and unbiased? or were you asking us if we could, in an unbiased way, answer the question "Do you think men's accomplishments and contributions get highlighted far more than women’s?"

When it comes to men and women being praised equally, it really really depends on the context. Nowadays some people praise men for the bare minimum while not praising women for anything, but other people praise women for doing nothing while criticising men despite them doing more. For example, when it comes to parenting, women aren’t really praised for being good parents because people see parenting as a woman’s duty, but men do often get praised for “babysitting” their own children (as some people put it). But let’s look at the dating world: a woman is often praised just for showing up, whereas a man won’t be praised unless he initiates everything, pays for everything, and takes control of all future dates. What if he can’t afford to go to an expensive restaurant? Then he’s “broke”. Women aren’t really judged as much for being broke.

So it honestly depends on who you ask. I’d argue that men and women are praised for their accomplishments at equal levels, but not for the same things. I will admit, I’ve noticed men and women praising people of the same gender more than people of the other gender. Not everyone does it (most of us are smart enough to give praise to people based on their genuine efforts), but a noticeable amount of people do.

I feel there has been a big push recently to essentially insert women into the lime light of achievements made by men.. especially in a historical context..

For example Charles Babbage is credited with the creation of the first mechanical computer.
But i've had feminists say that there was a woman working with Babbage who apparently did all the mathematical calculations for him..

And how she should actually be credited..

Now, I don't know the truth of all this but it feels like an attempt to essentially rewrite history to make it seem as though all these discoveries / inventions were stolen by men from women..

Now, to be clear I am willing to accept that this has indeed happened.

However if we take Marie Curie for example who conducted pioneering work on the field of radiation..
Nobody is claiming that there was actually a man working in the background who actually made the discoveries..
And to be clear Marie Curie absolutely deserves to be acknowledged for her discoveries.

But it really does feel like in today's society we aren't allowed to celebrate men's achievements without also giving vast amounts of lip service to the women who either deserve the credit more or were instrumental in the man's achievement..

Anyway.. that's my thoughts..

Lots of assertions, very little in terms of proof.

Basically, this post looks more like you declaring your gut feelings to be facts than anything else.

Are women's achievements really undercelebrated nowadays? When looking at the media, sometimes it looks like they are trying to overcomplicated, praising women for the simple fact they exist.

So I would be curious to see actual data on whether women do not receive the praise they deserve nowadays, or if it is just like the "discrimination in hiring", which has been shown to actually be against men when blind hiring is introduced despite all the feminist cries that it was actually happening.

And do men receive the praise they deserve? I'm not that sure about it either. On a societal level, praising men seems to be something almost toxic to any public figure, given how they stay away from doing it. There are a few figures like JBP talking about how society's infrastructures are run by men and the feminist messages about how men are evil is harmful and stupid, but he is not exactly portrayed with love in the media. The celebrations for international men's day are inexistant. A few individual men are praised on a case by case basis, when really doing exceptional things to the point even the media can't ignore it. But appreciating men ? I am not really seeing it in a societal scale.

So my question would be : what are you talking about, men's contributions being celebrated more than women's? Show us some data if you have it. Otherwise, we are just discussing biases, and how much we trust the paradoxical messaging of the media, which insist that we never praise women enough while praising women for the virtue of existing and insist we overcelebrate men while going out of their way to paint all men as potential rapists and criminal.

I mean, one of the most successful film of this year is "Barbie". I have only seen pieces of it from various video essays talking about it, but from what I gathered : the Barbies and Kens live in their parallel worlds where Kens only exist as a background for Barbies. Then one Barbie and one Ken go to our world, where Ken learns about patriarchy, and when he comes back, he installs a patriarchy against which the barbies are impotent to resist, and the barbies seek to restore the previous state of things. This basically the feminist patriarchy theory put in demonstration, requiring men to be all ready to propagate tyranny all over society and women to be so weak that despite starting in positions of having all the power in the world, they are powerless against it.

This film earned millions. Let's just say it doesn't strike me as a message praising men.

Yes, in the sense that Feminists aren't entirely wrong that there are real examples of women's accomplishments and contributions being de-emphasized to their detriment, and men's contributions, such as in the same field, being highlighted instead. If Feminists were completely wrong about these notions, then no one would agree with them about it. But the situation is not the way Feminists present it.

i think this is the case historically and so it bear upon the reality as it is.

my view on this is that the written history has veered masculine despite the reality that feminine historical contributions are real. I feel this is important to keep pushing on as it undercuts the claims of patriarchal realism, e.g. if women have in fact contributed reasonably well historically, then it follows that patriarchal realism is false.

its just an illusion predicated upon received historical narrative.

In todays culture no. 20 years ago sure.
Nowadays women have it easier because they are considered victims in every situation an men are villains by default.
