I went camping by myself on what would’ve been my 15th anniversary before the divorce was final. Didn’t really think about her at all, and just enjoyed the solitude, and the food I made out there in the woods.

Hmm, my ex left about 5 weeks before our Anniversary. I sent her the same Bouquet I had proposed to her with 9 years ago. She threw it in the trash.

So...don't do that, haha.

Go get a new sport coat and go have a meal by yourself at a bar, then watch the pretty girls walk by.

Go get a mountain of cocaine and some hookers...

In short, do something new. You will get new results when you do something new.

Do something for yourself that you wouldn't do if she were around.

I LOVE films and books but my ex made her traumatic childhood the cornerstone of her personality. I mean credit to her, she overcame a lot but managing her trauma was one of the most taxing jobs of mine during our marriage.

I watched all movies before her to screen out anything that might trigger her and avoid a lot of edgy, gritty, dark indie films that I enjoy. I recently started watching all the films I skipped bc of her and it's been an enjoyable experience.

It's nothing major, and has zero impact on my ex but it made me feel in charge of myself.

Maybe you could do something similar

I'd ignore it if we were on bad terms.

I'd ignore it if we were on good terms.

If I had an itch and found scratching it irresistible, at most, I'd acknowledge it on some neutral platform, text or email, with a minimalist message.

Maybe something like "We made it another year but just barely. I couldn't just ignore it. It's hard to believe it's been 24 years. I remember a lot of good times. And I'm dedicated to letting the bad memories fade with time. I hope we both find peace. Thanks for everything. Here's to new beginnings."

It's not the most horrible thing to do if you have kids.
