Your opinion on open relationships?

Not saying it is bad but I knew quite a few people who had open relationship and it is a trend now. Most of them started being closed and opened their relationship after a few years together. Only one of all those relationships survived (so far). The rest either got back together and regretted and soon after split up or it was one party having "more fun" than the other - usually women are benefiting from such relationships more because of how easy is for them to get laid down.

The one relationship I know was "opened" for a year (after being toger 7 years) and now is "closed". I spoke to the guy just a few days ago. I could hear the anger in his words even though he wasn't saint / on dry spell as well. Men are more territorial I would say. He was basicly cursing her because of how easy she went with other men with no regrets.

For women it is a dream until kids are involved. Benefiting of both worlds at the same time. Women live off attention and having attention from multiple men and at the same time having long-term care is a bliss for them. For men it is usually harder to find someone to be FWB with.

From what I heard it is always the side who want to "open" the relationship who is already either cheating or texting someone / having grounds prepared for the other person and they just want an excuse and clean shield for their behaviour. The side who just accepts is usually the one not having anything and is going to suffer.

But each to their own. For some it might work.

Men lose the open relationship battle 100% of the time. They go into it thinking that they are going to get all this play only to quickly find out it's their women who wind up with hundreds of DMs and men (many of them better than him) lined up around the block.

All my long-term relationships were open. Over 12 years of experience with this now.

I love an open relationship if it's done well. That's the challenge. It's very tricky to do well. But I like that challenge, and over the years I definitely got much better at it. I'm not going to say it's better than a closed relationship. I think it's about the same. You exchange freedom for some uncertainty and jealousy. Right now i don't meet others often. Only on vacation. And my partner doesn't want to meet anyone else (even though she could). That kind of balance works best for my current relationship. So essentially it's closed 95% of the time and open 5% when I travel and go a little wild. And she's monogamous from her end. I think I'm extremely lucky to have a good open relationship and I'm fortunate that she gives me that freedom when she doesn't take it for herself. Best of both worlds.

Or have a swinger relationship. It requires very good communication, emotional stability but it IS the holy grail. You can just browse other couples which you would like to join in the bedroom and it skips the game part entirely. If that is what you want tho.
