Can we please stop doing the "When you are privileged, equality feels like oppression" feminist tactic? I see it ALL THE TIME in both feminist pages and here and it equally makes me cringe. If we want to have better reputation we need to stop doing the exact thing which gives feminism bad reputation

Its not so much "Using the same tactics" as feminists.. Its more throwing their own words back at them..
Feminists love using the phrase "When you are accustomed to privilege, equality can feel like oppression" as justification for men getting the short end of the stick

This is because they universally see all men as "Privileged" and all women as universally "Oppressed"

So, when something happens to make women more equal to men at the cost of women losing a privilege they often get very upset by it and throw tantrums on how unfair it is..

In those cases I find throwing their own words back at them highly effective as it firmly highlights the double standards and hopefully gets at least some of them thinking about how it feels for men on many occasions

But it’s valid. Feminists really do interpret equality for men as oppression against women. This is shown by feminists calling every person who fights for equality for men a misogynist. They are telling you it feels like oppression to them.

The reason it’s cringe when feminists do it is because feminists really do actively oppose and successfully thwart progress on men’s issues... and men, as a demographic, have supported women in their fight for gender equality much more than women supporting men. So this means when feminists say it, it’s a projection, which is cringe.

This isn't explicitly about this post, but every now and again a post like this comes up where someone has been duped into playing the 'reputation' game: "If only we had a better reputation then we'd be taken seriously!" Often the person has internalized the negative societal narratives about men and then come here and make a plea for men to be better(tm).

Unfortunately, It's a losing game. One where you spend more time and energy in disproving the false slanders against men than actually bringing up the injustices faced by men. You're playing right into their hands and fighting on prepared ground. Feminist rhetoric is tactical in nature; it's not based on reality. There's no road high enough to take that will make them take men's issues seriously. There's no behavior noble enough to not be seen as a threat and attacked. The narratives and rhetorical tricks are not legitimate criticisms that can be addressed: they are semantic weapons designed to suppress.

When people who have internalized feminist arguments or societal narratives around men as good faith come here and argue for 'striving together', 'ignore rhetoric and focus on on rational argument and debate and ignoring rhetoric', 'don't show anger that is threatening' they are just going to put men in a worse place.

"Striving together": Feminists view cultural support as a zero sum game and they are fiercely defensive of their dominant position on gender based issues. If MRM fights 'gender related problems all together' while feminists just focus on women's issues then this defaults the MRM to a subordinate position by default.

"Dispassionate Factual Rational debate": Sadly humanity has never responded to facts and reason primarily. If the MRM ignores rhetoric and tone polices itself it'll be wide open rhetorical attacks used by feminists that are just designed to provoke, waste time and energy, and frustrate. things like sealioning, goalposts moving, strawmanning, whataboutism, JAQing, false dichotomies, appealing to emotions, etc

Don't show "anger" or "lose control": This is one that buys most into narratives imposed on men that are designed to subjugate them. The anger men feel is justified. The movement needs to leverage that frustration towards productive ends. I'm tired of men playing the game of "I take pride in how much damage I can take while still standing" as opposed to fighting back. If someone is focusing on a women's issue then that's just fine, but if they are really just blaming and denigrating men then shut them down.

Fighting together to address gender related problems is a wonderful idea but it's also a utopian one. The MRM did not start out with an antagonistic relationship towards anyone. Fifteen years ago it started to gain some steam online and simply brought up issues faced by men. For this they were ruthlessly mocked, attacked, mass reported, demonized, and harassed. As long as feminism is based on power dynamics and plays the game as though it's zero sum by suppressing discussion of men's issues then men must react accordingly to be heard.

I don't think that the point of this sub is that 'men have it worse'. It's to point out that no, men do not live a life of unbridled privilege. Yes, men also have issues, and at the same time women do have a lot of advantages. It's not a contest and it's okay to talk about the unfair differences. Just putting the brakes on any talk about this at all is where the privilege enters the equation.

The biggest flaw in this argument is that a lot of modern men never benefitted or participated in that historical privilege.

Sure, educational opportunities for women were historically limited, but Title IX was passed in 1972. 2-3 entire generations of college men have gone to college with that in place, let alone benefitted from a pre-IX world, let alone contributed to that historical oppression.

You're never going to solve a problem if the other side doesn't care.

If the varsity scouts aren't looking at you and nobody is saying "Look, that guy is GOOD!" you think you're getting a jacket? No.

Feminists are the varsity scouts if that's who you're trying to convince, and if you're not, the small minority of women who aren't are... And what will they do?

Unlike the other groups, women can come in here and say whatever. And typically the talkative ones who do are very angry and just want to attack everything men say... Doesn't help people get banned in other places just for posting here so any woman who wants to remain neutral to reddit can't even post.

What do you think that attracts? Trolls, Shitposters, People who don't actually care and man haters.

I feel like if we were to get anywhere you'd like to go we'd have to organize a strategy here, make a new subreddit, and exist there. So people can speak without fear of being ostracized by others.

Feminists buy food from the grocery store too, just because a feminist does something doesn't make it bad. Assessing who has worse problems is fundamental to understanding who needs the most help, they do it hospitals. Are you upset with hospitals too?
