Unfortunately, thanks to social media and sites like this, I have been able to be a veritable fly-on-the-wall, and have sat through many conversations that seemingly average women have had amongst themselves when they are speaking freely. They don't speak well of men or relationships. Sure, not every woman is like those we see in the popular Reddit forums, but there sure do seem to be a lot whom are like those misandristic radical feminists.

To use feminist logic, how can we men know the good women from the bad ones? How many poison chocolates will you eat before you reconsider reaching into the bowl again..? Or just knowing there are so many potential poisons in the bowl, why even bother trying just one?

I know most women are not toxic. Most women I know outside of websites, in real life, are amazing and admirable people with strong characters, ethics and morals. I know Reddit forums are not truly representative of most people in society.

However, at this stage in my life, I feel that life is better single. I see no reason to ever enter into a committed relationship with any woman again. Casual, sure, but nothing more. There does not seem to be any reward or return in that investment. It is just a cost-sink of time, energy and finances with huge risks of randomly losing your house to someone simply because you let them move in with you.

Common-law marriage begins automatically after one year of cohabitating, from my understanding. It is dangerous for a man to let a girlfriend move in and stay for longer than 10 months, if he owns his own home. For myself, as a single father, I need to ensure that my estate goes to my children when I die. If I remarry or get into a common-law relationship, I put my children's inheritance in jeopardy.

Not worth it to me.

I’ve been dating someone for over half a year now. I wasn’t looking for a relationship, she initiated it.

For her being in a relationship is a huge benefit. For me the benefits are barely outweighing the disadvantages. She’s always pushing things, which gets tiring.

Just get out there in real life and try. Find someone interested in the same things you are and be yourself. If you've got emotional baggage, resolve those issues first. Otherwise you'll just be adding fuel to the fire: picking terrible companions and/or being one, yourself.

I’m a decade behind you in my early 50s. Still married to my awesome wife. If for some reason I ever end up single it will probably be because she passed.

It would be very hard for me to consider opening back up. Certainly I’d be flighty about getting back to the altar or intertwining lives to the point of cohabitation. It’s not you, it’s the statistics.

Besides, it took a blind date to meet my wife. I’m not exactly the outgoing type. Chances of meeting another woman for a relationship are probably slim to none.

To be honest social media repercussions are only the frosting on the cake.

That aside: social activities. If you do find someone make sure to give as much time to their interests. If you can’t get excited about it, value that time together. It’s a b-17 instead of a wonderful setting of roses in the horticultural garden? You’re getting awesome time with him. Yes it goes both ways.

I’ll be honest with you. Men in their 60s today have seen the shift in how men and women relate, and a lot of guys have decided it’s just not worth the hassle anymore. Divorce, money battles, custody fights, most of us either lived it or watched our friends get chewed up by it. That leaves a lot of men cautious, even suspicious, about getting too deep into another relationship.

What we look for now is pretty simple: peace, respect, and someone who doesn’t make life harder. A lot of men don’t want to sign up for traditional expectations again (being the wallet, carrying the load, or playing the role of fixer)... We’ve already done that. If a woman brings drama, entitlement, or constant demands, most guys would rather stay single. Independence is easier than walking into a deal that feels one-sided.

That said, yes, an attractive, loving 61-year-old woman can find companionship. But the key is showing that you’re not looking to control or lean on a man in old ways. Men notice women who are kind, self-reliant, and genuinely want to share life, not compete or drain it. At this age, it’s about enjoying time together, not re-living the battles of the past.

So the bottom line? Men aren’t against companionship, we’re just against bad deals. Bring peace, respect, and real partnership, and plenty of guys will welcome that.

I knew a widow that age who said women her age had to be with men a decade older. I think that's a little optimistic. Maybe 15 years older? I've heard other older women say "I don't have time for a relationship now, I don't want to have to take care of him in his old age!" That could be what they mean.

The older men get the great the age difference it takes for them to feel attraction. Two sixty-somethings finding True Love mostly happens in movies. In my large extended family divorce often happens in the early forties and few people remarry.
