Genuine interest shows effort and initiative. If he's interested, he'll suggest meeting up, not just respond to your messages.

Polite guys will reply when you text but won't go out of their way to keep the conversation going or make plans. Interested guys create opportunities to see you.

The restaurant comment was your opening and he didn't take it. That's pretty telling. An interested guy would've said "we should check it out together."

I used to overthink every single message, and it just drained me. We can do some practice on conversation simulator sites like chatvisor. It helps see when someone just isn’t that into me, so I don’t have to spend all my energy guessing what they meant.

Stop waiting for him to give clearer signals. If you want to know, ask him directly to hang out. His response will tell you everything. If he says yes and follows through, he's interested. If he's vague or makes excuses, he's just being polite.

You deserve someone who makes their interest obvious, not someone you have to decode.

I'd say this is how you tell. You subtly gave him an opening and he passed. He's either not interested or not very assertive. I would personally be turned off by both, though the latter is an individual preference. I would let it go, myself.

Full text: I've been texting this guy I met at a friend's party for about two weeks. He responds to my messages and asks questions back, but I can't tell if he's actually interested or just being nice.

He'll text me every few days, usually responding within a couple hours. The conversations are fine but nothing super flirty. He asks about my day, makes occasional jokes, but never suggests hanging out.

My friend thinks he's interested because "guys don't text if they're not into you." But I feel like some guys are just polite and don't want to be rude by ignoring messages.

Last week I mentioned a restaurant I wanted to try and he said "oh that place looks good." I thought maybe he'd suggest going together but he didn't. Just moved on to another topic.

I don't want to assume he likes me and embarrass myself. But I also don't want to keep texting someone who's just being polite and secretly hoping I'll take the hint.

A lot of guys would give you a response with the bare minimum to be polite rather than ghosting you completely, especially the younger ones. But the number of guys who would keep responding for two weeks and asking follow-up questions to someone they have no interest in is pretty low. I won't say it never happens, I used to have a male friend who was extremely friendly/polite and he was replying to the messages of a girl he had no interest in for a whole year or so... but he's an edge case for sure (and he was only 20).

Most likely he is either interested but inexperienced or he has lukewarm interest and feels flattered. What was your interaction like at the party, who asked for who's number, and who initiated contact after?

when a man is interested, it’s definitely quite obvious in my opinion, one big thing is that he will definitely ask questions. I always think of this “ if he wanted to, he would” the conversation will flow smoothly, and it won’t feel awkward
