In my marriage, my wife was so controlling, so judgmental and was never accountable for her behavior. Because I had so much issue confronting conflict, I allowed her to dominate me to the point where I no longer shared my life. I kept secrets of my passions, interests, accomplishments, failures and feelings because I became defensive. I kept feeling she would weaponize everything I told her, at some point. She could take my success and find fault, saying I only found that success because of some convenient happening. And failures, she’d double down on. I’m finding it tough to shake those feelings. I think she permanently damaged my ability to share, to trust, to not live in a constant state of anxiety. It really sucks. I hope everyone realizes that picking a bad partner is far worse than being alone. It can totally and completely forever alter your life in a terrible way. When you have those feelings, know those feelings will fade. Look at the person, their past, how they handle situations, the drama, the accountability. You really don’t realize how much picking the right person means to your life and longevity.
