The vast majority of what women refer to as "emotional labor" easily falls into "shit that doesn't need to get done today, if ever."

Christmas cards for example. Omg, how my ex-wife would stress over properly costumed X-mas cards. Winter coat pictures taken in hot-assed August!

"Who is on the list? Who needs to be struck from the list? Did so-and-so send us a x-mas card last year?"

The first year I was divorced, I collected 6 pics of the kids and I taken throughout the year, attached them to a stock Christmas background, and sent them to family and friends.

The ex-wife was appalled at my paltry effort.

"Emotional Labor" is a concept women made up so women can applaud themselves for doing something as mundane as ordering a birthday present off of Amazon or scheduling a dentist appointment.

Adele is a fantastic singer, but no one applauds her for just clearing her throat.

Handling her tantrums
Walking on eggshells around her
Catering to her whims and fancies
Managing irrational moods
Absorbing blame unnecessarily
Regulating her emotions for her
Accepting isolation from your family and friends
Going into debt to keep her happy
Keeping the peace to avoid her reactions

It's better to avoid such a relationship.

Funny, because that completely contradicts my experience.

A lot of women I’ve met expected me to listen to them vent. If not about their traumas, it was about another woman they hated for the pettiest reason possible. Of course, I was supposed to treat whatever they said as true, their feelings as completely valid and warranted, and never ever criticize them.

This rarely worked in reverse. Even in the best case when they were interested in what I had to say, sometimes they’d get annoyed and try to explain to me why I shouldn’t feel that way. But very often, they’d just pretend to listen and changed the topic as soon as possible.
