Im new to all of this and am struggling with the litigious parts. We are a good ways from being separated for a year (divorce requirement in my state) and we have agreed to do this divorce as cheaply and amicably as possible. We have a son that is 15 months old and we will be sharing custody. We agreed to split all of his relative finances equally. From what I've read, even with this agreement, the court requires child support to be paid. Am I misunderstanding that, or is that just the way it is? If time, living situation, and everything is split evenly why should I be forced to subsidize her life? She moved in with her parents, and I have a mortgage still.. just doesnt make sense to me? Am I misunderstanding things? Am I an asshole for thinking like this?
