Countries with more precarious circumstances push their men harder which creates stronger precarious manhood beliefs.

Shit countries to live in with shit living conditions force men to be judged more on demonstration and achievement because in such circumstances you dont get to sit around with therapists talking about how to be softer.

I like the term "precarious manhood" much better than "fragile masculinity."

And this all makes sense. Precarious manhood is one of the mechanisms by which men are exploited, your identity cannot be validated until you have performed to the satisfaction of everyone around you. Stronger precarious manhood beliefs means a greater level of socially acceptable exploitation, and exploitation generally leads to more corruption and worse outcomes across the board. So this is effectively saying that the more you invalidate men's identities to coerce work and self-sacrifice out of them, the worse outcomes get.

There's a reason those behaviors emerged: because they work. Not having to demonstrate willingness and ability to fight for your life is a very privileged position only a few countries achieved in recent history.

This is rubish science. Both precarious manhood and lower national happiness are caused by 3rd factor - culture. I assume the arab countries in their dataset account for most of the effect.

The correlation is actually backwards. Tough places demand that you appear to act like a 'real' man.

Otherwise, you will be seen as a liability who cannot be afforded by potential allies and as a target to be attacked by potential predators.

The key is to cultivate your own strength and capabilities, whilst not losing your compassion.

Basically, try be like Aragorn, King of the Dunedain. That's the ideal balance to survive in such places without losing your soul.
