Go to NYC first and then move to Austin once you get stuck of the Big Apple. First, get a good job though. Having a good career is vastly more important

What's your long-term goal? NYC is a great place to be single. NYC women can be brutal but are usually pretty clear about their intentions. The cost of living is outrageous, and I would not want to raise a family there.

Southern women and Texas women can be much more ambiguous, and a place like Austin tends to have a much bigger strata of women to choose from. I have a friend who lives in Seattle, and there's Tech, and everyone else. In NY there is Finance, Marketing, and everyone else (with a little Theater and Brooklyn sprinkled in). I'm older but I doubt it's changed much.

Austin has a better entrepreneurial environment (Texas does in general) and if you do decide someday you want a family, better long-term prospects. NYC can be incredibly fun, especially if you can earn.

Living in Jersey/NY is going to be super pricey, so don't come here unless you land a really good paying job and are willing to commute everyday.

I live in NYC.

I keep wondering why people want to come here. It's ironic since I'm thinking of moving to Austin after I graduate as well. As a New Yorker, I'll tell you that your money will go much much farther in Austin than here. However (as a New Yorker) if I could afford it, I'd choose NYC. By afford, I mean having more of a surplus than I already have. Shit is expensive here yo, and it sounds like you're trying to party. You'll have some of the shittiest $30 dishes you've ever had here. Fuckin Empanada Mama charges $4 plus tax and tip for a tiny ass cheese empanada when I could get the real good BIG shit for $1.50 down the block.

That being said, I doubt you'll be moving anywhere except Manhattan, or Brooklyn. Maybe Astoria, Queens, but you'll be far from "the city" anywhere else. Trust me bro, you're not used to those travel times, no matter how much you think you can handle it. Buy a car? Normally that's a convenience, in NYC it's a nuisance.

Regardless, you're about to graduate college, but if you want to live in NYC you NEED to secure a well-paying job. Unless you want a roommate or 3, you need cash reserves that most college grads don't have, so save up now regardless of your choice, because you're going to need it.

You can make it in near any industry here, it's just that there's more competition. It pays to have connections here, and despite what niggas here might say, you're not going to talk your way into a company here. You might get an interview, but companies here go through applicants like butter. You're expendable, no matter what industry you get into.

You say you want to meet cool people and date beautiful girls, but everyone in NYC knows that basically means you'll reside pretty much solely in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and I don't blame you. Regardless of what borough you live in, be prepared for garbage.

You're used to the aerial views and cherry picked pictures of the Highline and Soho.

You're not used to the chihuahua sized rats, human shit in subway walkways and sidewalks, puke on the streets, bums asking for money (every single day) on the trains, and the garbage juice when it rains.

Even on 59th street and Columbus, or in the Financial district, or Tribeca where the rich niggas live, it's all garbage, if a little better. Thing is, you're not going to be able to afford living in the places where its that much cleaner, so get used to it.

I'm deadass, you will walk past mountains of garbage bags sitting out in summer heat on the streets EVERY DAY on your way to work. That shit will go straight up your nose to your brain. That's just how it is.

Cost of living is off-the-charts in NYC. The hookup scene is easy-peasy because the women are straight out of Sex and the City and pretty much just grab your balls and drag you into the bedroom because they think that makes them strong and independent. The people are snotty and superficial and you won't form any lasting friendships with cool bros and will always feel like you're in this limbo transition phase of your life, like you just don't belong and probably aren't going to stay there forever. Most of the people you meet will feel the same way, like they don't really have roots and are just passing time and working for a few years before moving somewhere else. Which is part of why casual sex is so easy there. People are just passing time having sex while they're there.

Austin is a much less hectic place to live. You drive places instead of taking the subway (though rush-hour is a bitch, or at least was before Covid). It has both a college/downtown bar scene and a couple of young professionals bar scene areas, depending on where you'd end up living. The girls and the hookup scene aren't quite as grab-your-dick as NYC, and it'll be easier if you're good-looking enough to slay at online dating. Meeting a girl from the internet at a cool bar for a drink then going home is a lot easier than picking up strangers at bars.

I’m 18 live in austin. Great city, outdoors, girls, bars. Not so good is transportation and food. Don’t get me wrong there is good food but coming from Chicago there is a huge difference.

It depends what your goals are. I’m about to move from Boston to NYC for the below reasons:

1)NYC is the best city in the US interms of single girls to guys in ratio. I’ve heard Austin isn’t as good. Also, NYC has a ton of international people so you get more variety

2)So much to do - there’s an almost unlimited amount of food to get or places to check out in Manhattan or the boroughs

3)Rent prices absolutely plummeted during COVID in NYC. Although still high, many places are offering months off for free - this will be the cheapest you’ll ever get into NYC

4) I’m well off. 0 debt and I can afford a nice Manhattan apartment alone without impacting my ability to enjoy life there. If you’re ok with rooming or not necessarily living in the heart of the city, you’ll still be able to enjoy the fruits of NYC

Ive lived in New jersey most of my life about 30 mins out and have been in and out of the city many times.
