A question about circumcision

I'm a circumcised male, 32. Although I'm perfectly content with my penis, I had no option. I had no choice. That decision about my body was made for me.

Circumcision itself isn't what people are against, (like I said, I'm fine) it's the circumcision of infants.

Take also into consideration the fact that IT COULD GO VERY WRONG and it becomes less of a harmless thing and more of a no-brainer-don't-do-it-to-your-children thing.

All that being said, I'm also a Christian. I have a faith. I understand the need to follow what you believe to be instructions from God.

You are making a permanent body decision on someone when they cannot give consent. No significant benefits exist in deciding to circumcise versus leaving it intact (at least in the developed world).

Edit: I was fortunate to be born and left intact due to (unfortunately) larger medical concerns. When I was 24, I developed phimosis, and no degree of treatment (stretching, steroid cream, etc) would make it better. The circumcision was necessary, but to a degree "my" choice.

Routine circumcision is antiquated and bizarre. While the silver lining of my condition is that I now look "normal", it doesn't excuse routine cutting. (Think about it - if only people who had medical issues like me got cut, I would look SUPER weird right now - "Where's the tip of your penis???" It's merely a silver lining).

As a Jew, if I have a son someday, I would want him to be circumcised. I don't understand what's wrong with that... Could somebody please explain?

Your religion is not his religion. If he chooses as an adult to participate in the rituals and commandments of Judaism, then he is free to do so, but to subject him to the rituals that he has no ability to understand or consent to, is simply physically and spychologically abusive. You are free to teach him the tenets of your religion as well as encourage him to participate, but he is the one who ultimately makes the choice.

Second, His body is not yours. You do not own your child. He is not property. He has rights of autonomy and choice. You need to understand that and respect his rights to autonomy and self determination. There is no valid excuse, other than immediate medical necessity that justifies the violation of your future sons human rights. His body. His choice.

I have the same question. My parents also made a decision regarding me playing in the street and drinking poison. It all worked out though. I didn't circumcise my sons, but now I'm thinking that this was a bad idea as one of my sons will need one anyways.

To whom it may concern:

At the present time, I am announcing that I do not intent to participate any further in any legal action regarding the pending child molestation case between the State of Utah and the defendant *** unless at such time an agreement can be made between me and the State of Utah.

To begin, I wish to point out to you the following excerpts:

Constitution of the United States of America, 14th Amendment, Section 1 No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
US Federal Law, Title 18, Part I, Chapter 7, Section 116 (a) Except as provided in subsection (b), whoever knowingly circumcises, excises, or infibulates the whole or any part of the labia majora or labia minora or clitoris of another person who has not attained the age of 18 years shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.

A simple understanding of biology will show that the male and female genital anatomy are composed of comparable parts, for example, the skin that develops into the scrotum on the male is equivalent to the skin that develops into the labia on the female, as is the case with the foreskin, glans and frenulum is comparable to the female foreskin, glans clitoris, and frenulum (which is generally considered the most erogenous point in both genders, and is often removed from the male in the act of circumcision).

In accordance to the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution (excerpt 1), ANY act of male genital mutilation should be punishable under the precepts as cited in excerpt 2. Failure to enforce these laws are clearly unconstitutional, as men and women are entitled to equal protection under the law, including instances of genital mutilation. Females have protection from even a pinprick to their genitals, while what equates to a post card sized piece of erogenous tissue as an adult can be routinely excised from infants without necessity. This is unacceptable.

I hereby refuse to aid in any way, shape or form with the prosecution of ***, as I find the act of child molestation to be significantly less harmful to the victim as the act of male circumcision (though I take seriously the damage caused by both child molestation and circumcision), but until these matters are either clarified in respect to the constitution and codified into law or enforced by the judicial and executive divisions of the State of Utah, to punish any such less damaging act to be clearly hypocritical without first recognizing and punishing those who, for whatever reason, excise genital tissue from the bodies of unconsenting minors, as both actions can easily be seen as acts of child rape, where circumcision involves the additional illegal act of sexual assault of a minor. Male circumcision is already illegal under federal law with or without consent of the parent, and regardless of the religious and/or medical beliefs of the assailant under the 14th amendment of the constitution. I simply demand that the law be enforced or clarified.

I would also like to state, that in such a situation where the court were to issue a subpoena against me, I would hence refuse to testify as per the 5th Amendment until an agreement can be made that addresses the issues, as I have presented them in this document.

Especially the age of 18 - are most "batmitzvahs" (sp??) at age 13?

They want to stop Jews (and others) from practicing their religion. If you can pass just 1 law forbidding the practice of a religion - you can completely screw the whole religion over.

If you're a Jew, you should have the opportunity to learn that the circumcision practiced since the 2nd Century A.D. is not what the Torah prescribes.

So, although it's not your intent to complicate your son's admission to Greek gymnasiums, that's what periah was intended to do.
