Good luck, reddit is so easy to troll.

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points19 points 12 years ago (28 children) | Copy Link

I trolled a thread on climate change- after I told them I was specifically doing this to prove a point- by linking the exact nonsense they hate being paraded around as legitimate fact.

You can literally wear the fact that you're trolling around your head and people will still fall for it.

Climate claimers tend to be extremely sensitive to perceived "fairness".

i assume it would be the opposite of climate change deniers. Which is a misnomer in itself because no one denies climate change. They are skeptical as to its cause and extent, and severity. As opposed to the Proponents of climate change, who have been screaming the sky is falling for like 15 years, and quickly and viciously silence any objection and bury any evidence to the contrary. Like the shrinking deserts, after they spent 5 years hyping desertification as the way man would go extinct. They have it set up so that nothing can be evidence against climate change. Not colder weather, not hotter weather, not temperate weather, not rising or falling sea levels, or growing or shrinking ice caps. No matter which direction anything moves in, its global warming caused by capitalism.

definitely. or because somany scientists agree, we dont need to look at any evidence presented by scientists who dont agree. as if scientific consensus is infallible.

[–]Gnometard 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

There is no evidence from those that don't agree, just denying of the science. Of course, there is less than 1% of scientists who deny it anyway.

[–]LineOfCoke 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There is no evidence because no evidence and disprove something as vague and unspecified as the kind o climate change they claim is happening.

[–]Gnometard -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So, you're a climate denier?

[–]LineOfCoke0 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

nope. i acknowledge that the climate is a real thing.

[–]Espiritu13[S] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Or even the mere thought of someone disagree makes everyone go apeshit.

[–]LineOfCoke 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

yes, suddenly tenured professors, people who have devoted their lives to science for decades, are rightwing nut jobs who dont know what they are talking about, simply because they aren't just nodding their heads in agreement.

[–]cuntbh 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Tenured professors are a bad example- they have no reason to do anything spectacular, they can churn out run-of-the-mill papers.

[–]LineOfCoke1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

what i mean to say is that this is some one whose devoted decades to science in practice and theory. They have no motivation to go against popular theory for political reasons, because popular theory is in line with their personal politics. But science is science, its not subject to popularity and politics.

[–]cuntbh1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

it's not subject to politics or popularity

I wish. So many theories, now proven true, were initially rejected on the basis of "you disagree with us, and I've been doing this longer than you".
Take Feynman for example. His methods for calculations in quantum interactions took a fraction of the time that the alternatives took, and removed the problems of diverging infinite terms, but also produced a current result to the method used at the time, so he was ridiculed. Now his method is standard, but because of popularity, it was ignored at first.

An example for politics is Al Gore- some people believe in climate change because they share his political views, but some will ignore any evidence for climate change because they don't share his political ideologies.

peer review in the context of climate change = reads the summary, applies smiley face sticker.

[–][deleted]1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Someone from MIT trolled the academic community when he started getting papers published that were just the product of an algorithm that aggregated common phrases from other climate change papers and then he cleaned up the abstract portion so that it was coherent and legible.

The number of people citing those papers was appalling.

[–]Gnometard 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is the majority of the "Right". Intuition (or FEELZ as I call it) always trumps facts/peer-reviewed science (or the REALZ as I call it)

[–]getbackdownhere 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

the Proponents of climate change, who have been screaming the sky is falling for like 15 years

Oh, you've only been listening for that long. It's been going on since at least the 70s

[–]LineOfCoke 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

you're right I was born in 84, so I havent been alive that long, much less paying attention to the climate change debate, but from what I understand the big thing back then was global cooling and a second ice age, caused by capitalism.

edit: well not a second ice age.

[–]maximun_vader 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Climate change denier? OK, the general consensus among the specialised scientific community is that

  • temperature is increasing.

  • it is probably thanks to us.

The evidence of the firsts one is undeniable. For the second one, is suggesting.

Yes, some deserts are shrinking, but this CAN be explain in a climate change context.

So, I'm no expert in the area, but the one who are have a consensus about this, and they back their shit with evidence.

One of the things that I like about this sub is that it backs its shit with evidence. So please, of your are gonna deny climate change, please back your shit

[–]LineOfCoke 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Yes, some deserts are shrinking, but this CAN be explain in a climate change context.

of course it can. the concept is so vague that anything can be explained in a climate change context. This comment right here is likely the result of global warming causing global cooling causing global warming causing global cooling that feels like business as usually because the changes are actually so minute that they may or may not be good or bad or possibly neutral because these guys over here received the grant money they needed with the stipulation that they find data that proves the thing needed to push the political agenda their sponsors require. The only thing we can agree upon is that whether its hotter or colder or if we get little rain or a lot of rain, or if winter lasts 10 months in siberia or only 4, its capitalisms fault.

[–]maximun_vader 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Holy hell... What? I mean, it took me 30 second to Google how climate change shrinks deserts. But then, for you, it's all a conspiracy against capitalism? We are not talking about a couple of scientists here. This is a general consensus in the field. Evidence, papers, data, it's all there man. But somehow.... This is just a conspiracy? And you got zero evidence for this, except your words?

It's like claiming that evolution is a conspiracy against religions. You can't deny facts just because you don't like them

[–]LineOfCoke 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

the green scene has always been pinko. You think Communists and socialists just happen to also champion the environment? No. Its that way because its always been a seemingly reasonable way to attack capitalism.

[–]maximun_vader 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Than it's your mistake to assume that industrial activity = capitalism. The burning of fossil fuel it's not dependent of the economic system. We can still have capitalism with better forms of energy, that won't kill us in the long term. We chose oil because it's cheaper, not because it's good.

[–]LineOfCoke1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Its not that industrial activity = capitalism, its the strict government regulation over means of production = liberal pornography. Once they start regulating the smoke stacks and drainage pipes, they have their in to infest and infect the rest of the means of production in a nation.

[–]maximun_vader1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

What? Regulating externalities lead to central planning? No serious economist would even suggest that government should not regulate anything at all. Not even Milton Friedman.

I frequent a lot of different sub reddits and I have found it shockingly common for people that disagree with me to think "go back to TRP you misogynist" is a fitting rebuttal to any point I have when it is completely irrelevant. I take it as a victory in any case - they could not create an actual rebuttal to my arguments, so they were forced to attack my reputation and authority in a desperate attempt to invalidate them.

[–]LibertarianLibertine 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Serves you right for wasting your time on those subs instead of working to improve yourself. ;)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Touché, but I find debate - even lacklustre debate like one can have on Reddit - is an important flexing of the mind that can be hard to obtain in real life depending on the emotional and intellectual integrity of your peers.

[–]boscoist 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm with you, I love the debate subreddits. also dating_advice, though most of them are not prepared for decent advice. they often take it after thinking for awhile though. It even got me gold once.

[–]t21spectre 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

disagree with someone...9/10 times their response is "go back to redpill".

This has happened 0% of the time for me, 80% of my activity is on TRP.

[–]Lilcheeks 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I see it as responses to stuff that really isn't related. It's just an "insult" people use to discredit someone for people who probably don't even know about this sub in the first place.

[–]Endorsed Contributorleftajar 12 points13 points14 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I love it.

They're OBVIOUS trolls, so they don't really tarnish TRP's reputation. Yet they're still inciting curiosity.

Which subreddit is that hideous, that vile, to where internet strangers are giving up their free time to slander it?

That might be worth a look. click

[–]VaginalFungus 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

At least that's how I discovered this subreddit.

[–]IamAwaken4 points 12 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

I wouldn't be surprised if he was a misguided RPer still in the rage mode.

Also maybe didn't fully read/understand the side bar.

Seems like a poor attempt to troll though.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Rage mode = walking talking strawman, basically. Poe's law in full effect

[–]colovick 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He's on downvotesmcgoats as a trending troll... Nothing to see here, just a troll who knows what buttons to push

Sent the username to you in a message. Don't like the idea of starting a Witch hunt. It's one of their deleted comments FYI, but you can still see it on the profile.

It's summer vacation, most every forum on the Internet is bloated with bored teenagers/tweens trying to make their witless friends laugh.

[–]boydeer 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

to be fair, i'm sure there are stupid people who like TRP too.

in any case, the people we want here are the ones who will evaluate a place based on the content.
