Looks definitely matter and really good looking guys can often coast on that alone and not much else. Anyone who says different is lying or retarded.

Here's the thing though.. confidence, frame, dominance & status matter more. One day you will see or experience it for yourself. A beautiful, handsome looking man that gets totally fucking dominated and pushed around by a man with better frame. Happens all the time. Tons of great looking guys just sit there looking pretty and not much else. I laugh at these dudes with my alpha friends because very often what ends up happening is they will bring good looking girls to our parties and we end up fucking them, that very night or later.

Why? Not because we look hotter than their BFs or whatever. But because their BFs are good looking losers. Chumps. Genetically gifted bitches.

But the real truth to understand is this - alot of good looking men are also very dominant and high status. Read between the lines. They get more opportunities thrown at them than most men. They learn quicker. They become "naturals" more easily and at a higher percentage.

This is the real reason behind the perception bias that looks matter more than anything else. They don't. But generally, good looks come first. Then, opportunities and experience. With enough opportunities and experience with women, anyone that is even slightly intelligent and assertive will start down the path towards being alpha.

Looks do matter a lot. Confidence and game helps. You're talking about online dating which is basically all based on looks. Your inner game is what helps you succeed in person where they judge everything else besides your looks.

They both tie into each other. If there's 2 guys that are both extremely good looking, but one has shit confidence and is a beta he will attract less women than the other guy.

If you're not good-looking, and really, other than being tall, I look like I'm made up out of spare dinosaur parts--you can sit around and piss and moan like a little bitch, or you can go out, improve yourself, work on your game, try to make yourself exceptional in one or more ways, and bang higher quality women than you would otherwise have access to.

You don't get to pick, but you do get to work with what you have.

Looks matter a lot online.

In real life however, it matters less. Obviously, do what you can to look good, but don't stress out about things you can't change.

"Looks don't matter" because there are a lot of guys, especially in some dark corners of the Internet, that like Elliot Rodger are completely obsessed with looks. Since looks are all that matter and they've decided that aren't good looking enough, they never so much as talk to women. Then they get pissed that they aren't banging 15 models a day, and then we've seen how the rest of that turns out.

I wouldn't go as far as saying status, game, dominance and frame are completely useless. Let me elaborate. Untill the age of 18 and for some girls early 20s, looks are almost everything to most girls. If you ask any girl around that age who her favourite actors are, the immediate response would be Leo Dicapprio.

HOWEVER, as I started observing girls in my early 20s, I realized that being a group leader, and dominating the conversations with wit have gotten me very far. As a 20-21 year old living in dorms, I would fake an insane level of confidence and talk with a certain straightforwardness, mixed with an anti conformist devil may care attitude ( excuse the cheesy terms, I am not a native english speaker) and this have gotten me very far with most girls.

I can think of many nights when I would hit on a girl that is already being hit on by a better looking guy and I would get her everytime.

I even went as far as asking some of those girls questions like how come you picked me over this and that guy, and the most classical response I would get would be something along the lines of " he is cute, but he is more of the nice guy, not my type..." or " yeah, he was obviously attracted to me, I sensed desperation ". and one I would always remember : " he's very hot, but he's not man enough for me, I can not imagine him dominating me ".

This last one got me thinking a lot ( back then I didn't know anything about the manosphere/ the red pill ). I just kept thinking about what she said and this led me to the following conclusion :

As soon as girls get to their 20s, they are attracted to one thing and one thing only : a master. It's primal, it's basic and it's essential. Dominance will get you very far ( not explicit / douchebaggy/ little dog barking ) but real, subtle dominance.

I tried online dating and like you said I rarely got any replys, and for the exact same reason I mentionned. While you can try displaying social status ( bad idea, you might come off as a beta trying to show off by trying to look like you come from money ), you can never display dominance.

For further illustration, imagine a guy like Georges Clooney, or Christian Bale having an online profile...would they really get that many replys ? out of the context of social proof, if they weren't celebrities, their looks are not that special. In that scenarios a guy like Leo Dicapprio would win everytime.

But put them all in a fancy party and let their charms work, I bet you Clooney and Bale would beat the living hell out of Dicapprio, at least for most women that are not 18.

In evolutionnary psychology this is all explained by the fact that men care about looks because we are seeking the best genetical prospects, while women are seeking security/protection ( even the most feminist of them as millions of years of evolution counter the 30 - 40 years of social engineering ).

And security is best displayed by genuine confidence, dominance and strength of character. All things felt by a woman's instinct, and definitely almost impossible to display on a tinder profile.

I suggest if you really want to find out what they are attracted to, that you stop your social experiments with online dating, get out of your shell and start social experimenting outdoor. Do it out of curiosity, dominate conversations without trying, display high levels of confidence / testosterone and see if you can get more women than your brother in law.

You can coast on looks and you can coast with money but nothing works better than confidence. Women can smell the stench of desperation. I've got a buddy that's dating chicks half his age and his face isn't even in his profiles. He's 50 and looks 60 and he's fucking so many smoking hot girls in their 20's he has to turn his phone off at times. Confidence, real confidence trumps everything.

Looks are hugely important.

Ugly people say they aren't to protect their own egos or to explain away why they fuck other ugly people.

Beautiful people say it to not sound shallow or mean and to avoid hurting other people's feelings.

It's so fucking obvious that looks matter, and in mating matter even more to women.

Sure, they will compromise to get a rich guy, etc. But for a quick lay? They go for the hottest guys that they can get, often above them.

Women are visually stimulated by everything and love to decorate, look at cute things like puppies, etc. Now, suddenly that gets turned off when they want to fuck?

Having said that, dominant charisma is very important also, so looks are not the only thing, but still damn important.

Looks matter, especially for first impressions (and online dating is little but that).

But if you work with what you have (ie. you groom and dress well, lift and diet), very very few will be so ugly that they couldn't get in the top 20%. Frame and game is way more important than the part of your looks you can't change.

Of course they do. The way I see it how you look is an advertisement. Make it as appealing as you can. How you carry yourself is the actual product, which is relevant after you've attracted the initial attention.
