Guy had just been accused on bullshit charges. He knew it was bullshit, and therefore had... mastery... over all of it, and found getting booked... amusing. When you can genuinely summon that face and the feeling that goes with it, you're there.

It's a sense of not being shocked, surprised, or visibly angry that she did something so obvious; buy at he same time you're smiling in a way that says "that's your best effort?! How adorable; nice try."

So let's say you have a kid and that kid wants a toy. But he's asked before and you've said, "Nope". But the kid REALLY wants the toy though. So every now and then the kid comes up to you and does what in his mind is a sly round about maneuver to talk about how great this toy would be to own and all the benefits it would provide. But the underlying machinations of his intent is plain as day and it all ends up being kind of funny and cute. So you're not really mad or upset, but you get this little smirk on your face as you watch the kid's theatrics and sales performance unfold. You're in on "the bit" even if you aren't actually in on the bit. That smirk on your face and that mentality towards the kid is amused master.

Now imagine your wife is throwing down a shit test. She's coming at your with everything she's got to see if your frame will rattle...are you tough enough to withstand her attack? But now you see the code flowing down in that vertical pattern and you know what's going on. You might agree and amplify your way out of it if you feel like it. But now you're so well versed in the underlying language of a shit test, you just can't help but let that little smirk slide on to your face. You know what she's up to...and you're a-ok with it. In fact, it's kind of cute... That look on your face and your cavalier attitude towards it all conveys that you're simply unaffected. Your wife gets the message plain as day...you're now impervious to the onslaught of her emotions. And you no longer need to dodge bullets...

One way to look at it is... A) total prick version, where you feel superior to everyone, arrogant, and you have contempt for everyone, and you are paranoid and constantly trying to protect yourself from people, using childish humor to try to play on other people's weak points.

Another way to look at it is B) It's not a trick. It's a sign you've finally grown up and become an adult; you don't take things personally when someone does something that doesn't feel flattering to your ego. If someone else is upset about something, you don't have to storm off in a huff or freak out or try to control the other person's behavior. You even have a sense of humor when things are going wrong.

You didn't get your "mastery" at the bottom of a cereal box. It's not a trick you found online. It's more real than that. And it's the same mastery everyone else has who has finally grown up and reached adulthood.

It's when you seen this before. But you've not lost your balance, not like you did way back when. You might have been hit in the teeth once again, but today you're still smiling at this.

When you're competent enough, and you think this is cute. When you know what the other person is attempting, wanting, wishing, expecting, and it's just so laughably funny. When you can look into the future, one, two, three steps ahead, and you know what's likely to happen. When the situation is a joke to you.

When you were younger, this was annoying or frustrating or disorienting to you, but now it's just a joke.

Think of you bratty but adorable 10 year old daughter. She wines and cries. You dry the trees and tell her it is ok. She cries more and you, smiling and laughing at her antics tell her she better stop crying or her face might freeze like that. Or you put an arm around her and soothe her hurt feelings. Then you tease her until she laughs while tears roll down her face.

That is amused mastery. Don't get butthurt and have fun. Her flailing around cannot hurt you because you are the stable emotional rock and even when she is losing her mind you are calm, cool and in charge.

The up and down conflicting emotions trigger the tingles in women.

If you're considering how you're being perceived, you're out of your own frame.

If you can do whatever it is you are doing with a genuine smile, that's a damn good start. Doing what you want to be doing, and small obstacles get treated like small obstacles, and don't really bother you. Think of "The World's Most Interesting Man", or those "Chuck Norris memes: When Chuck Norris was born, he hit the doctor".

If your wife is shitting on you, what is preventing you from doing something more fun than hanging out with a nagging killjoy, at least right then?
