I am almost 30 and got married last year to wife, 28 years old. We are both lucky to have successful lucrative careers (doctor, lawyer, finance, consultant) that require long hours.

My wife is very smart and motivated. She is competitive and likes having a strong profession and making a meaningful financial contribution to our marriage. We live in an expensive coastal city and make mid six figures, and I make 50% more than her.

With kids maybe 3-4 years on the horizon, should I encourage her to keep pursuing her current career track that will require at least 60 hour weeks when she has kids? Or should I encourage her to find more of a 9-5 job?

If she should find a 9-5 job, should I persuade her, or allow her to come to it on her own? She currently works with a woman in early 30s who just had a kid and is quite miserable, never being able to see her hid.
