My wife's younger sister has a new boyfriend. He recently spent some time with the family and having got to know him, he's a bit of a dick. He's in his early 20s and he's quite arrogant. I get on with most people but he's one I just don't 'click' with.

Anyway, my wife today asked me what I thought of him, to which I replied 'I think he's a bit of a dick'. Which started WW3, as she proceeded to tell me that she can't understand why I don't like him, it must be jealousy, either I'm scared of him taking my place in the family or BECAUSE I HAVE A CRUSH ON HER SISTER. What. The. Actual. Fuck.

She went on to say how I'm like this with all of her sisters' (she has 2) boyfriends, and that it must be jealousy. This statement is bullshit by the way, but there have been 1 or 2 others I haven't got on with either.

She's insecure about this particular sister as she's quite a bit younger and no kids yet (we've got 3). And we've always got on really well. Have suspected that she had a crush on me for quite a few years, for reasons I won't delve into now, but it is 100% not reciprocated - I've known her since she was 7 yrs old & don't look at her that way at all.

We were interrupted in our conversation today so I just said 'we'll talk about this later'. Well now is later, and I have no clue how to react to this - any help greatly appreciated.

I stopped describing guys as "a bit of a dick" or "douchebags" or "players" when I realized that usually those feelings came from my feelings of inadequacy when my drive and initiative to succeed were compared to theirs. Often, my insults would be based on a moral high ground on my part...as in "I'd never be like that to get what I want."

And if they really are being a bit of a dick...in particular to me...I handle it. Kill your ego.

I used to be this way too but now realize I was just jealous that my strategy of being nice wasn't as successful. I was doing "the right thing" and girls liked my jerk friends more. My wife definitely had tingles for my alpha friends. Had a Christian upbringing so I literally thought God was going to give me everything I wanted if I was a nice person. I kept waiting for that to happen. Spoiler: it didn't.

First off, /u/abdada is 100% onto something about your wife projecting. The way you describe this guy, I'm about to get a crush on him. You could probably stand to learn a thing or two from him tbh.

Secondly, never ever say anything negative about this guy again unless he absolutely deserves it. From now on, he's like your best bro. Beta males talk negatively about alpha males because they are insecure around them. So seriously, STFU.

This isn't about the sister at all, but if she makes it a point to bring it up, just tell her "yea, she's hot" or "I wouldn't kick her out of bed" or whatever that game of thrones chick said. And ya, you do have a crush on her sister, but you choose to be with her, but she better cut that attitude out right now, or you are going to find a better girl. Oh, and your not jealous of her sisters boyfriends, she is just projecting.

That will set her straight, and if it does not, leave her. Find a better women, and this time don't get married, so she can't try to be a parasite.
