Recently I've noticed that among my more dominant friends some of them feel pleasant to hang out with and others leave you feeling kinda shitty.

Why is that?

I've come to realize that the unpleasant dominators tend to subtract social value from those around them while, at the same time, increasing their own social value. These social vampires do things like interrupt people, don't laugh at peoples jokes, and change the subject of conversation at rude times. They could also be called negative social dominators since their actions tend to decrease the total social value of the group.

On the other hand, positive social dominators are more neutral in regards to the social value of others while still striving to increasing their own individual social value. Logically this type of domination increases the total value of the group. Personally I've noticed that these people reacting strongly to others jokes and stories (wow, that's ridiculous!), by being excited to see you (man it's been awhile! how have you been?), and by generally being very comfortable with who they are. I've also noticed that these people come off as more naturally dominant since they don't need to bring others down to dominate.

Finally, negative social domination not only makes people feel shitty but it can even work against you since:

  1. It pushes people away through negative feedback loops.

  2. It lowers your groups total social value. Sucking up the social value from those around you may increase your own value but overall the net effect on the group is negative. This makes it less likely for others to want to join your group.

  3. It reduces your ability to reprimand others through selectively lowering their social value. Basically, you don't want a "boy who cried wolf" scenario. If you are constantly socially punishing people it starts to lose its effect and only serves to further push people away from you.

Suck my dick.
