Well, when men were incentivized to get married and have a family, they had a deep motivation to work and earn to support the little lady.
But as we learn about how hard we get screwed in divorce court, as we learn that women are incredibly easy if you only learn a few Alpha and game traits, as we learn the government likes to tax the hell out of the middle and give it to others who don't want to work, we decide we don't need this shit. For a long time I thought the car I drove mattered - it doesn't.

Daily new puss till late 30s. After that, wife a doctor single women in there 20s make for then men now, time for male hypergamy.
Funny how this works for both sex except for the age part.

It goes past 30's - I am 44 and have not slept with a girl older than 30 in 10 years. My current girl is 22 and hot. She is also bi, which helps feed this wonderful single mans adventure I am on.

Do you tell them your real age? Have you kept thin and kept your hair ir shaved your head?
Older guys should post more and tell us how game changes once you get older.

Yes, I am truthful about my age (after teasing her that I am much older) Here - this is me and her. http://www.pipubs.com/about-us/ Been dating since she was 19.
Our pictures are at the bottom of the page.

Well, she sure doesn't look like a girl you'd take home to mama. But then she probably doesn't show YOU to her parents.

Actually both of her parents love me - and my parents like her.

You're 22 and you can't find girlfriends? Cute young girls want cute young guys. They don't want 44 year olds unless they have daddy issues. These men are fooling themselves.
Extraordinarily good looking and/or rich guys can find young girls. Not your average schumuck. Don't waste your youth thinking you'll get better or more pussy when you're in your 40s. You're in your prime right now.

I don't want to work for/at a company that employs women to fulfill a quota.
I don't want to work with pussified beta men and entitled, "strong, independant" womyn who earn as much as I do for less effort.
I don't want to work at an office.
I want to do manual job for a bunch of hours every day and work with men, come back home to find my wife waiting for me with a warm meal and ready to make love and watch a movie. That's my idea of a perfect life.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
As much as they're trying to change it, there's still lots of fields where there are virtually no women. I don't look down on real work and spent a good portion of my life doing just that, but it isn't the only option. Electrical, software, chemical engineering are all extremely male dominated. The few females that trickle in get married, have kids, and disappear again. I work at a midsize company and as far as I know, there's only one layyyyyyyyyyyyydy - the HR manager.
As an aside, I tend to agree with you on the perfect life. If I could make anywhere close to what I make now working with my hands, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I love math, engineering, and solving problems, but it's a hobby. Getting dirty is simply more fulfilling and infinitely less stressful.

This isn't a red pill answer, but it's the actual answer. The US economy has shifted from production to service industries. Productive jobs (construction, manufacturing, etc) are relatively dangerous, require strength and mechanical aptitude. Service jobs require no intelligence, physicality, or any kind of real expertise, which is why they're generally very low paying. The production sectors are still dominated by men. What percent of diesel mechanics are women? What percentage of actuaries are women? What percentage of electrical engineers are women? What percentage of chemical engineers are women? These numbers haven't changed since the 90's. The change is the type of industries the US economy promotes.
The only red pill part that comes into play is the 20-30 year old males were raised by strong independent womyn who raised their boys to be beta pussies. They're physically weak, mentally weak, completely emasculated, and had the competition beaten out of them. All they know is their instincts are wrong and they should feel ashamed for having masculine thoughts. Eventually there will be a pushback, but for now... it's a lost generation.

It's issues like this that make me so happy to see younger and younger men swallowing the pill. What I would have given to know this stuff back then.

tell everyone they "have to" go to college, and then make sure that women are prioritized in this endeavor over men
take away the male's incentive to overproduce for his loving family
ship all of the jobs non-college educated men used to do to foreign countries
shame all manual labor as low class (despite the fact that the people doing the shaming are often making $45k/yr while the shamed are pulling $100k+)
create work environments that require men to act against themselves for fear of raising the ire of the HR feminazis
hire college educated women to work HR departments who then prioritize other women's resumes over men for the same roles
This is an abbreviated list. It's actually a suprise more men haven't checked out on working.
[–]TRP Vanguard: "Dark Triad Expert"IllimitableMan 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
With the caveat that prettier women will not be hired by HR departments in companies where HR rather than management do the hiring because they are "too pretty", leading to jealousy and the feminazis running the HR department there feeling inadequate, insecure and threatened by the new girls beauty.

Well to be honest I expect the figure to be a lot higher.
The UK governments Work Programme (part of the Job Seekers Allowance dealio) works well to hide a lot of people who have checked out of work or are unable to attain work relevant.

We see a lot of fudging of the unemployment numbers stateside as well. And there's also the underemployed to consider: people who would like to be working full time, but are only able to find part time work.

I guess my experience is different. Currently I have 3 people, besides myself, in the department. The first is a very dominant father figure with a family, the second is a man who's already been divorce raped and has pretty much become MGTOW without knowing the term, and the third is married but I have no idea how his marriage functions.
[–]1kick6 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I graduated with a lot of social retards. One of my closest friends from my school days that was in my degree program didn't lose his V card till he was, like, 28. And even then, it was a with a fat single mom cheating on her boyfriend.
[–]Lyrad1002 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
your second point needs elaboration: Most men just need modest means to live, a spot to live, food to eat. The only reason we kill ourselves trying to make it big is to get women. And these days, it really does take uncommon money to get married and have kids. Gone are the days your average wage could support a family, much less attract a woman enough to marry you.
Shit, if there's a snowballs chance in hell that I'm going to have a family, I might as well just sit home and play x-box.

Yay! I feel represented today. I have opted out pretty much. For me, I can't really do the types of job I am qualified for. They involve a crazy amount of social activity with co-workers. They involve constant "teamwork" and political guile. It all just makes me angry. It would be okay if I could be left alone to get on with a task but the modern working environment just doesn't seem to work that way. It makes my blood boil and stress me out to the point of illness. My girlfriend is the main earner in our house. I spend the majority of my time composing music and the remainder working on a video game (that I am about a year into making). It is completely realistic that one of these two activities will eventually make me money. That would be very nice. Basically the reason I think men are opting out is that practical skill isn't needed in a lot of the modern office type jobs that proliferate. It has been replaced with a reliance on social skills (something I am not big on). When you cant just whittle away at something quietly and employ a high level of skill there is no job satisfaction. I'd rather not "work" than suffer that.

Thanks NPR- 99% of the population will read this and have no idea why men are leaving the workforce because they do not tell us. Lowered stigma to men not working? Men just refusing to step up? It's a mystery.
No it is not a mystery if you unplug. You get what you incentivize. Marriage 2.0 is a failure and does not incentivize men to work hard because it is a shitty deal for men. If a hard working man gets the hottest young virgin who bonds to him and fucks him hard for the rest of his life (i.e. Marriage 1.0) then he is willing to work to get it. If he gets a reformed slut who fucks like a prude and is much more likely to divorce rape him than fuck him after the wedding why would most men even think about it?

Look at those graphs and keep in mind when feminism became a thing. Check out when Title IX was put into effect. There are some pretty good correlations.

First-wave feminism ended in 1919. The first feminism to call itself such has been around since the mid-1800s. What you're thinking of is second-wave and thr Sexual Revolution of the 1960s. Second-wave feminism was the harbinger of doom, and third-wave is pure insanity.

Some students just sit in class and have no idea what is going on.
Some students take the class and understand the material to a lesser or greater degree.
Only a few students, like you, take the class as if preparing to teach it.

I love this topic because each ideological perspective sees their pet issues represented:
NPR & Progressives say the decline in male participation is a result of lower unionization rate, less stigmatization of men not working, less education, technological innovation and offshoring.
Conservatives will say pornography, video games, hook up culture, female labour force participation and an expanded welfare state are also causing men to "drop out".
RedPillers correctly will say that all of the above certainly play a factor, but these explanations are incomplete without mentioning:
Incentives for men to marry and support a family have eroded. Why marry and have reliable access to sex when a) thanks to feminism, women give away their power with a flick of the finger on Tindr, and b) divorce, because of the way divorce laws favour women, can drive a man to suicide. Men are wising up to how rigged family law is against them.
Higher education is a hotbed of leftist and Marxist-feminist dogma. Why would you send your son to University or College for anything other than STEM? 40K plus in debt, a useless degree and a headfull of socialist BS is what you graduate with. Like Herpes of the mind.
Who wants to work as a wage slave in a corporation with speech codes, trigger warnings, happy talk and hiring quotas only to have 50% of your paycheck seized by the government or your ex wife?
You get more of what you encourage, You get less of what you punish.
Everyone responds to incentives. NPR is incapable of fully answering why MGTOW is a phenomenom because they do not have a sufficiently objective world-view that allows them to see the whole picture.
They would hate that characterization. Looks good on them.

Men aren't leaving the workforce, they're being forced out. Been happening for 30 years.
[–]General_Fear 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Once you make the decision that you will not marry, there is no need to knock yourself out working yourself to death at a job you hate. In fact, as a single guy, you can skate by on a low paying job. Especially, if a guy does not go to college.
Now here is a kicker. If you can get by as a single guy, imagine if you take a good paying trade. You make good money and no college debt.
[–]caveboy77 -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I enjoy how NPR never takes into account the oil field. Natural gas production in the United States has increased exponentially over the last 5 years with the onset of hydraulic fracking. With it there has been a huge increase in well paying jobs in rural areas primarily for men. Not a whisper from NPR on the topic.
[–]TimeToBugOut 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
As might be expected, economists don't agree on why so many men have left the workforce. Some possible factors they cite: There's less of a stigma today if a man doesn't work. Union clout has declined. More men are in early retirement receiving disability benefits. New technology has eliminated manufacturing jobs. And competition from abroad moved others overseas.
I don't have any profound insights on this trend. Could this be a symptom of women entering the workforce? As more women are employed in positions previously filled by men, there's fewer men working?
[–]wiking85 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
Certainly, but there is a wider set of issues going on involving lack of jobs and male educational attainment (more women get BAs). Men are falling off economically due to lack of support systems for them in education, but also loss of traditional male jobs in manufacturing and construction.
Edit: The official figures though don't include male participation in 'off the books' work in various industries, both for illegal immigrants, but also citizens/residents that don't want to pay taxes. Plus there are criminal activities like drug dealing that men nearly exclusively work in, but aren't counted as jobs. Men probably aren't dropping out, but rather going off the grid with their work for a variety of reasons, not least of which is taxes and criminal activity.

For anything as large and complex as a nation's employment, there's never only one answer. My opinion is that there has been a confluence of effects over the past forty years that has disincentivized men to maintain the rate and style of employment that they once had.
This does not just mean feminism; I personally view feminism as a symptom of a larger social/economic/political change brought about largely by the sheer largess of post-WW2 America. Feminism doesn't drive society, instead it is driven by larger forces such as increased automation (both of employment, which has progressively destroyed domestic jobs, and things like housework, which has progressively destroyed the traditional woman's role), a massive increase in social spending/engineering of all types, a move away from decentralized self-sufficiency towards an ever-more centralized, debt fueled way of life, and so on.
That's what the author means by "economists don't agree"; there's too many factors that they're working with. The changes that society has undergone in the past century have been mind boggling: automation, women's rights - leading to family splintering and an increasingly radical feminism, the rise of the welfare state, etc., and these changes and their ripple effects mean that men are now less able, less willing and less rewarded for working as hard as they've been proven able to.
/r/TheRedPill is excellent at detailing the individual ways that the old social contract has broken down, and how to work around it. What it's not quite as good at is macro-level analysis like economics. It wasn't just feminism that has lowered the expectations of the western man, not even close; in fact, feminism is just a symptom of a much larger sea change, though not necessarily a good one.

There's a lot of correlation between flat lined real median male income, marriage losing it's roi, and barely employed scumbags banging the highest percentage of women.
There's less incentive to work hard; there's more incentive to learn game

There is a lot of different variables in the equation but It starts in the classroom. Young men have to deal with 12 years of being told their behavior, effort, and work is not good enough. When it comes time to go to college more men are being herded away.
From my own personal experience as I was graduating high school I was told by my mother "I don't know who's paying for college, you're on your own." I chalked it up to coming from a poor family and never gave it a second thought. I went to school on my own steam for two years and eventually stopped because school and work was too much for me.
When my sister graduated my mother supported her full steam. Helped look for grants, aid, and anything else possible. Not only is my sister going to college but she is going away to get a real college experience. This is when I realized that I was being bull shitted by my mother and that guys will always have it rough when it comes to school.
If you are wondering no family income didn't dramatically increase, and we didn't hit the lottery. Academically my sister and I are polar opposites, I graduated on my own steam, she graduated by family riding her ass to do her work. Yet she is the one who gets to head off to college. Fuck me right?
New jobs require higher education that men aren't able to get because they get screwed out of it in some way shape or form. Of course men are opting out because most don't even qualify. I've been forced to work in retail for 5+yrs and I fucking hate it. Why wouldn't I quit?
If any of you have sons for the love of all things holy bring them up the right way and don't let the feminist world we live in alter them.

They are leaving workforce because we are evolving. We are starting to understand that human is to create and progress, while labor should be done by fucking robots.
Or it is just the fact that worker rights are less and less, so as his sallary. Only thing increasing is number of hours you have to pull this month.
