There's way too much fixation on being "alpha-widowed" and on "pair bonding" in your post.

The high n count is a problem not only because of these, but because women sometimes cheat when they are bored, when they are too comfortable, when they are not comfortable enough, when you take them for granted, when you constantly try to please them, etc etc. They simply like variety. The more men they've been with, the more likely they are to get reminded about how it was with this other dude or that other one, and how there are so many other men out there.
