Or you could utilize your time learning a skilled trade. Then you can go make the money and keep it.

(Aside from taxes, but my mentor taught me cash is harder to track and tax.)

I'm a farrier/blacksmith by trade. Yeah, I only got paid $200 a day while apprenticing, but part of the apprenticeship was that I was owed an education in exchange for my time/body and once I got good enough, he threw accounts of my own my way. I work as much as I want to, which is a lot, but many just work enough to live comfortably.

Capitalism is what has given the highest standard of living for the vast majority of people on this planet. Socialism, or communism does not work. You said yourself that you do not want to work, like someone said above, you are a child that just wants it handed to you. If you don't want to work, contribute to the economy, be successful, that's fine go sit on your ass somewhere. But don't expect the rest of us to bail you out with a social welfare state because you're too lazy to get off your dead ass and work like everybody else. Nah man you’re thinking about this all wrong. Working isn’t wasting time or else we wouldn’t call it working. Your employer pays you to do a job and you do it for a third of the day... so what? This is the best point in time for the employee, back in the day if you didn’t have a skill you worked a low level job for 16-18 hours for jack shit pay. You obviously get money for it, and nowadays even if you’re working at $7.25 you can still buy food and other student shit. And most people don’t work at 7.25, most people make a lot more. If you can buy 6-7 McDonald’s mcchickens after working 1 hour-while having no skills-you’re doing pretty good. So if you’re seeing work as a waste of time maybe you need to learn a skill, get a better job, or start a business that can get you in a better position (gl with that though if you don’t change your shitty mentality)

He makes good points about creating a good work life balance. If you're having trouble seeing the point, find a goal you feel is worth chasing for the next 30 years. Take control of where your life is heading. Do what you think is worth your time.

I would suggest that you decline the offer and find something that better fits with moving forward. I suggest a job with more physical labor or at least some kind of movement or interaction, versus some shit soul sucking office job.

In life there is always choices, especially and you go out of your way to look for choices. It's just that 95% of people act as if there aren't choices and you "must" for example accept the offer you were given for the summer job.

There are really 4-5 choices when it comes to dealing with time off from school:

- Do nothing and waste time on the internet (bad)

- Get regular job (not very good)

- Travelling (good if you can afford)

- Find a job that isn't full time and commit to some valuable after work activity, like going out every day to a specific activity (good)

- Find a physical job that at least partially replaces the need to exercise formally at the gym, and gets you out of your comfort zone (good)

As a general rule it's best to ignore any opinions that are too strongly held by the person making them. Nothing in life is certain and anyone vigorously suggesting that there is only 1 path has something to side or is overcompensating

Yeah, I feel this way too. I just like to think of it as a not so bad prison yard. The way to escape is to SACRIFICE. Do what others aren’t doing and you’ll find a way out naturally. Save your money, spend your time perfecting a skill, write where you want to be, and in no time you’ll be where you want to be.

Get a job waiting tables. It’s short shifts usually 4-6 hours tops and you can make an easy $100 at the right place. Try and get a job bussing at The Cheesecake Factory and work yourself up from there

You're absolutely right.

Work fucking sucks, and it's good that you're not pretending like it doesn't. That it makes you angry, shows you know something's wrong. Internalize that you have the power to change that.

What you must do is channel that energy to get out of working as young as you can. Use that energy to fuel your escape for good. It might take time, but that is what you should move towards.
