Should the government do more to get women into the workforce?

Women make the practical choice to opt out because in reality, most careers/jobs are not fun, rewarding, or fulfilling, but hard, stressful, boring, and draining. Feminism has got to be the biggest Tom Sawyer of all time. Even assuming taking care of your own kids sucks, its hard to argue that its objectively worse than grinding in a cubicle, or working construction in 100 degree weather or snow or whatever. I get that stay at home parents need a break, but I think lots of women find more fulfillment in parenting than in the jobs most people end up working. Only a small % of anyone gets into top level glamorous professions, and even then only a certain % actually like them. I think people see stuff like this and immediately assume "OMG teh womyn are being forced to give up on their dreams by the patriarchy!" when in reality, they are simply making practical decisions in the context of their own lives. Tons of people don't even really have a "dream job" or much direction in their lives at all, really.

Society should provide no childcare. No support of any kind, in fact.

Society picking up the tab on women's behavior is precisely why they all continue to make terrible, civilization ending decisions. Such as having a litter of bastards, coasting along with no father figure cuz dem government checks, and just generally slutting it up with no worries about her long term future or whether any man will ever want her fucked out, cockworn self.

Women are so fucking hypocritical sometimes. "My body, my choice! No financial abortion for men, I should be the only one to have that privilege. After all, biology trumps all!"

Ten minutes later, while talking about govt mandated childcare: "Why should women be slaves to our biology? You men all need to man up and start providing so we women can like, have jobs, n get outta the house, cause like, who wants to raise kids??? So boring."

Sigh. Woman logic, man. Hamsts gon' hamst.

Women are usually the ones who stay home with babies and small children. This is an important job and should not be undermined in such a way.

Have we really built a society that "relies" on women in the workforce? Should the government provide free child care, so that the ladies can get back in the factories, where they belong?

1) yes. Looking at housing prices. A by-product of the push for women in the workplace is that the cost of real estate is aimed towards two income households now. I personally am aware of this, knowing several institutional real estate developers who have tripled or more the value of their portfolio in the last 40 years. If you can't afford property, it's a major social issue.

2) government shouldn't get involved, the private sector should. The obvious fallacy of her argument is that it isn't profitable in a free market economy for the private sector employers to do it. If women working was so valuable to the workforce, this would have already happened by now.

in my experience factory working women don't really work . Just flirt with management while her male co-workers do all the work .

Our economy gets a lot of its growth by encouraging consumer culture which needs everyone possible to work and spend as much as possible.

I'm not a fan of this economic model and think more people should try to live more modestly and spend more time raising their children. Kids need available parents more than they need 40 Xbox games.

Childcare for a certain amount of time for those trying to transition off of public assistance would probably be a good idea but not for the general population.

What I would really love is for America to get its head out of its ass about child care. Yes I also wish that certain businesses would take care of its employees/offer living wages, but these are such deeply entrenched problems in our nation that I'm not sure what an ideal solution would be.

The work force has indeed changed in that families aren't getting along on a single income anymore.

I think we should instill minimum income so the people who don't want to work/work useless jobs don't and those who do want to find work. The amount of administrative/clerical jobs which amounts to administrating other jobs is fucking preposterous.

Women joining the work force was ultimately a net-negative for society as it reduced the bargaining power of the workers, but at the same time, no one should be denied the right to work.
