Well, I think you could play exploitation both ways. Men objectify women and exploit their bodies, and women capitalize on male sex drive and exploit their wallets.

But honestly, it just seems like supply and demand to me. Some people are willing to pay for it, so of course it exists.

Unfortunately for some/fortunately for others, the sex industry is some people's greatest chance to earn money they need (or want). So they're using what the have to get what they need.

Pimps and traffickers are subhuman scum, however. You want money so badly, you go perform the sex acts rather than exploiting someone else.

Exploiting the situation. There is a demand for it, any oportunistic capitalist would provide the supply. On mobile so I can't seem to link it but there is a study showing apes or chimps resort to prostitution when exposed to the idea of currency.

I think it's individuals simply exploiting the situation and there'd be prostitution in matriarchal societies. The only difference I can see is that sex workers might not be shamed like they are in patriarchal societies.

Prostitution has nothing to do with "masculine society" or society at all for that matter since prostitution is not something that only us humans have. The first thing that primates they were taught the concept of money was to buy sexual services. Penguins are known to whore themselves out for rocks valued for nest building.

Millenniums of religion have got us to believe that humans are something special created by some deity. But at the end of the day, humans are just another product of evolution. Like every other living thing, all traits and characteristics exist because they increase survival and reproduction. Males doing anything in their power (such as prostitution) to have sex with females isn't some "product of male society" or "exploitation," it is simply within the nature or us animals.

Basic economy: If there is a market for it, it exists. And due to the high sex drive of most males, there is a huge market.

Doesn't have much to do with exploiting poor (wo)men and isn't really about society in general, as everyday life is not that influenced by prostitution/strip clubs.

No, society also includes women so it's not a masculine society. It's both a masculine and feminine one. Sex workers exploit the tendencies of men. That is all.

Prostitution of women is rape. Its using a system that deprives women of the ability to make money (70 cents on the dollar, sexist discrimination at every turn) to force them to have sex when they otherwise wouldnt.

Its the patriarchy at its most fundamental. Men using their wealth, power and privilege to control women and use our bodies. Personally, I would advocate the banning of all prostitution of women, as well as all pornography featuring women.

However, we have to make sure such laws are implemented in a way that protects women rather than harming us further. Therefore, only the men involved in any of those activities should be prosecuted. Sweden has a very enlightened system in that regard.
