The data is really meaningless unless you have the female data to compare it to. You could easily have a group of similar women and they are all having sex with each other.

So, let's assume that this is true. What population is it measureing? Only those who were trying to 'hook up'? Only those who successfully 'hooked up' at least once'? I very highly doubt that this applies to the whole population. Widespread monogomany makes that kindof tough, and I'm not sure that poly relationship folks break down like this either. The other question is, "is this the same top N% responsible for K% of hookups in a given period?". In other words, is the same population of 'top' men always 'on top'?

I am more interested in the percentage of women who are actually engaging in casual hookups.

I've commented on these statistics before, so I'll say the same thing I did last time:

The data doesn't break-down the "number of sexual partners in the last 12 months" into heterosexual/homosexual/bisexual males. According to the statistics, 263 males reported having 9 or more sexual partners in the last 12 months. There's another question in the survey that asks, "Within the past 12 months, did you have sexual partners who were male?" 474 males answered "yes" to that question.

It's pretty well established that gay men have a much easier time hooking up with other males than straight men have hooking up with women. This is a major reason why HIV spread through the gay community so quickly. To add some statistics, the Kinsey Institute did a survey of gay men in San Francisco before AIDS. He found that about 75% of gay men claimed to have had 100 or more past sexual partners.

Here's another example of this massive casual sex in the gay community:

Gaëtan Dugas (French: [ɡaetɑ̃ dyˈɡa]; February 20, 1953 – March 30, 1984) was a Canadian who worked for Air Canada as a flight attendant and an early AIDS patient.[1] In March 1984, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study tracking the sexual liaisons and practices of gay, and bisexual men in California, New York, and some other states found Dugas to be the center of a network of sexual partners, which led to him being dubbed "patient zero".. Dugas is described as being a charming, handsome sexual athlete who, according to his own estimation, averaged hundreds of sex partners a year. Apps like Grinder have made it even easier for gay men to hookup.

We really don't know how many of those 263 males who claimed to have 9+ sexual partners were gay, but since 474 males admitted to having gay sex in the last 12 months, it's possible that all of the 263 males were gay. I doubt that's true, but the gay-sex numbers would most certainly skew the numbers. Additionally, based on the calculation (using a mean of 1.72 sexual partners), they calculated that the 263 males needed to have around 19 sexual partners for the numbers to work-out correctly - and then using the 263 males x 19 sexual partners (on average) to calculate the "The top 2.6% of men are responsible for 29% of the hookups" claim. This introduces another problem: a few gay men with high numbers could skew those numbers. (For example, if half of the men with 9+ sexual partners were gay and they had 30 sexual partners on average, it would dramatically change the numbers.) The statistics assume that the 263 males were heterosexual "alpha" males who were hooking up with all the girls, and then building a story around that. We simply don't know if that's the case.

Conclusion: the claim that "The top 2.6% of men are responsible for 29% of the hookups [with women]." is based on an assumption that all of the men in the survey are heterosexual. (I know "with women" isn't included in the OP's claim, but it is implied.)

I wouldn't trust the first link based on the fact that it is a blog with an inherent bias. Secondly, what percentage of men don't care about hookups, because it isn't an insignificant amount.

Also, what is "the top"? These men are not "the top" in my book. But maybe Dalrock has the hots for these guys.

What does hypergamy have to do with casual hookups between people not in relationships? Thats not branch swinging its just meaningless sex. For all we know its the same in women too. EDIT: checked the study its IDENTICAL for women

And it counts a guy fucking twice a day in a committed relationship as a guy barely getting any sex.
