This will be heralded by feminists. Then people won't go to see it, which will of course be called discrimination.

[–]nrjk 26 points27 points28 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So basically it's the WNBA of movies.

[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Given the actresses they picked, that's a very good comparison.

[–]Endorsed ContributorInvalidity 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The idea behind any business or venture is to make a profit. It's one thing to create a product or a service catered to a woman's needs/wants and a completely different thing to cater to a female pandering.

You can't make money off equality. That's why feminists push for agendas that intrigue more than just matters of equality (privileges).

[–]snobocracy 15 points16 points17 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's also why feminists rally for more statism. Their poorly-planned schemes and projects would never endure in a free society; but if you can apply political pressure on a local candidate... boom... your local council suddenly spent 58 million tax dollars on a "women in sports" museum.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women in Sports Museum

AKA

Let's learn about some women who had the ability of 16 year old men at certain things!

[–]putsch80 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I see the term "trigger" thrown around in a lot of posts, especially in headings on various relationship subs. What is meant by that term?

[–]XCowboyLowkesx 20 points21 points22 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It's a term SJWs use for anything that makes them feel bad about anything. You know how when soldiers come back from war and have PTSD?

Well imagine that except minus 1000.

Anything women can say to garner any kind of sympathy. It worked at first, but now it's just kinda getting pathetic to the point that no one can take them seriously.

They always try to say that "triggering" is the equivalent of PTSD but no. That's like putting krillin against SS4 Gogeta.

[–]GRRMkills12 points 11 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

They always try to say that "triggering" is the equivalent of PTSD but no. That's like putting krillin against SS4 Gogeta.

Dat analogy tho...

SJW's are big whining babies. If I was one, I would be offended by them even claiming to comprehend what having PTSD is like.

[–]R4F1 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is basically what SJWs see when they face a trigger.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

So, I read a story by a guy who got sucked out of his house by a tornado. The wind shattered the window, he got pulled up into the air and spun around and dropped. He wound up with broken ribs, and a wrist. generally fucked up from the whole experience.

Whenever the wind got too strong, he'd freak out. That's evolution doing it's thing. Burn the shit out of yourself, and you've got a healthy fear of fire. This guy though, had a full panic response. Heart rate at 220+. If you've ever had that kind of of fight or flight response, you'd know your hands are freezing cold, but you don't notice till way later. You probably lose color vision. Rookie cops in high-stress situations report losing vision entirely. Essentially your brain is too fucking busy to let you know about every little detail, its got other shit to do.

I absolutely believe men and women go through terrifying experiences and are fucked up about them for years. PTSD is a real thing.

The sad thing is, it's very treatable. exposure therapy is 90% effective - you get in a similar situation, nothing bad happens, do it again and again, most people learn it's ok. There are other treatments as well.

So, when someone tells you they're being triggered, they either have amazing self control - because speaking is really fucking hard when you're that amped up - or they are a liar.

The lies are really a shame, because the overuse of the term leads people to think there's nothing that can be done. And some people out there really need help.

[–]trp_angry_dwarf 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So, when someone tells you they're being triggered, they either have amazing self control - because speaking is really fucking hard when you're that amped up - or they are a liar.

Guess I have amazing self control then.

For me, it still works in stages but escalates really fucking fast. most people might take 10-15 minutes to get upset by a "thing that annoys them"

I still process the same range of emotions, I just get to fight or flight in about 30 seconds.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're a badass. Never let anyone tell you different, you mutant dwarf freak.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Their use of the word trigger is essentially the same as their use of the word rape. If it's something they don't like it's one of those two words.

1) Feminists shame people into believing that women are as funny as men

I'm not sure I understand. Women can definitely be both good actresses and good comedians.

Now, this movie will fail because it's a shitty idea in the first place and they got shitty actresses only to pander to the retarded SJWs, but I don't understand the general idea in this thread that old women/women in general can't appear on a big screen after their 30s, or that noone will go to see them.

[–]WardlyHasted 9 points9 points9 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I have never ONCE gone to a movie because of a female actress that was starring in it. Ever. If I ever go see a movie just for the hell of it (rare) I tend to think something like "Hmm that new Liam Neeson movie is out. Ya, he kicks a lot of ass, why not."

This doesn't mean that women can't act or that they're bad at it. Meryl Streep is great and a very respected actress for example.

What this does mean is that male actors draw in the crowds. People go to see the Clooneys, Cumberbatchs and Pitts of the world. People go to see actors like Robert De Niro and Jack Nicholson. These people can sell movies on their name alone. Women can't. Even when they're hot, which is the main thing most female celebrities have going for them.

This is why a movie with a bunch of ugly, 40+, fat women won't sell.

[–]ioncloud9 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've watched a movie before to see a hot young something actress, but if the plot is shit I'll stop.

[–]LeslieTim -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You are absolutely right about the commercial aspect: male actors attract a lot more people than female actors, that's a fact. Women love to watch movies with hotties in it. Men tend to admire talent. Hell, I probably wouldn't even have watched Godzilla if Bryan Cranston wasn't in it, for example.

But I wouldn't have seen that horrible series called "American Horror Story" either if it weren't for Jessica Lange (65 years old and still rocking), that's why I think the general hollywood/tv situation is sad.

Acting is a job and an art, disconnected from the discussions about sexuality/frame/hamstering/etc on this subreddit, so even if this particular movie will fail miserably (and it will!), a

movie with a bunch of ugly, 35+, fat women

might actually work with a good cast and a good script. Hell, pretty much anything can work with a good script!

[–]trp_angry_dwarf 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Why did it NEED a reboot at all?

The original was basically perfect.

[–]LeslieTim 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well the answer is simple: we didn't need it in this case, and it's gonna be awful.

But I'm not against reboots in general, some of them came out pretty good.

[–]Dark_Shroud 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Well lets talk about the first serious issue, the ghost busting equipment. Go watch the original Ghost Busters movie and pay attention to the gear.

Part of the problem is the Proton Packs are heavy as fuck because they're similar to a portable nuclear reactor.

In the last cartoon series, Extreme Ghostbusters when a woman was added to the new team she was given a compact unit. It wasn't as strong but it allowed her to do more than just carry the new style of ghost trap.

I don't believe for a second that these women could carry around the proton packs. So I'm waiting to see how they address that.

Now lets talk about female comedians. Yes there are some funny ones I acknowledge they do exist. Kristen Wiig & Melissa McCarthy are hilarious on SNL. Kate McKinnon has also made me laugh. I'm tired of Melissa McCarthy's movies. Just watching the promos for Identity Thief where she somehow beats up Jason Bateman was all I needed to avoid that movie. In the end I don't think this cast is up for the challenge. Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon might bring the funny but I'm not in the mood to watch jokes about women ala Brides Maids.

[–]LeslieTim 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't believe for a second that these women could carry around the proton packs. So I'm waiting to see how they address that.

That would be simple, they are gonna redesign the equipment. It happens all the time, especially for superhero movies. They had to redesign the Superman costume to not make it look like a pijama, so they can definitely do something like this.

I'm not an expect on american standup comedians but I think the female cast of many comedies is top notch: Parks and Recreation (Amy Poehler, Aubrey Plaza, etc), Community (everyone), Arrested Development (everyone), Big Bang Theory (the series itself sucks ass, but Kaley Cuoco has very good comic timing), The IT Crowd (Katherine Parkinson)...just not the cast of this movie, that's why it will crash and burn.

[–]Dark_Shroud 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You can only make a proton accelerator so small even with today's technology. They're still going to be heavy back packs. I think the problem isn't that women can't do it I just don't believe this cast could do it.

For comedic actresses I think you bring up at least two that would have been a much better fit, Aubrey Plaza & Kaley Cuoco. If they were going to take a risk do it on someone like Gina Carano.

[–]Night--Writer 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I enjoyed the original Ghostbuster films. I was hesitant on watching the rumored remakes with Seth Rogan but heard Jonah Hill was in it and then became interested as he's a great comedian on screen.

Then I heard of the cast change- now I don't have one good reason to see it.

[–]Newdist2 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

  • Kate McKinnon: 31, looks good... for her age

  • Leslie Jones: 47. Not traditionally attractive to most moviegoers.

  • Melissa McCarthy: 44 and fat.

  • Kristen Wiig: 41.

Nobody is going to watch this thing.

[–]jolly--roger 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Kate McKinnon

and a lesbian, that will probably attract some female audience

And though I personally liked Wiig in SNL, I'm sure as hell not going to waste time with this

[–]drallcom3 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

The female audience wants Chad Thundercock doing the romantic beta dance for a replacable Sharon Wallhitter. Since when do women like action movies?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

the only way to save this movie is ghosts like Johnny Depp

[–]jolly--roger 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Johnny Depp

... who's had a streak of bad movies now anyway, so why not

[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ugh what a waste of a good series. At least the last game they made was awesome.

Why can't feminists just come up with their own story and circlejerk their grrl power fantasy all night? Why hijack something most guys here grew up with?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's even better for them, ruining something men came up with.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Melissa McCarthy could play Slimer.

[–]Tarnsman4Life 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lena Dunham would do a far better job...

[–]truthiesttruth 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You should delete this thread right now, giving this pile of shit exposure is not what the redpill is about.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

What's our argument against women who say women are just as funny as men?

[–]hamsterbator 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Common sense? See any group of men and women. The men are providing the humor 80% of the time.

Watch some comedy shows. There's just no comparison.

Some girls are funny just like some girls are good at basketball. They still suck compared to dudes.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why do girls get so butt-hurt over nothing.

[–]changshuaidiao 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why would there be small company of ghost fighters made up of only women?

There isn't even a female only group of plumbers or electricians.

The notion seems more ludicrous than the idea of fighting ghosts itself.

[–]bzzltyr 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not sure how many box office experts we have weighing in on here. Say what you will about your personal feelings on the cast, but saying this is doomed to failure doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Bridesmaids starred two of the four, was written by the same people and made something like $170 million on a $32 mil budget. Melissa McCarthy's movies have grossed over a billion dollars. Factor in the popularity of Ghostbusters with the success of reboots in the last decade and there is no way this movie fails. I'm not saying the movie itself will be good, I have no idea, but from a revenue perspective it will do fine.

[–]hamsterbator 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

This is gonna be about as successful as the WNBA. Women don't make good superheros because it is a manly, ugly trait for a woman.

Charlie's Angels only worked because the whole thing was based on feminine sexuality.

Masculine women are a turnoff to all audiences.

[–]trplurker1 points 11 years ago* [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

Masculine women are a turnoff to all audiences.

Gonna disagree with this. As long as the women is herself rather masculine and tough then it can work, provided the setting and movie are appropriate for it. Michelle Rodriguez comes to mind here though she's a bit too thin for the role. Gwendoline Christie would be well suited for a "women warrior" type.

What I don't like is casting these thin, petite women to be "action girls" who somehow beat up all these big dudes using waif-fu. If they are going to have an action girl, she needs to be big, strong, muscular and not particularly pretty on screen.

[–]hamsterbator -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Unless she has superpowers or plays an MMA expert ala Rhonda Rousey any female "tough guy" character is pretty much bullshit from the get-go.

There are plenty of tough, ratchet girls out there in the ghetto but in reality even the average man could easily submit 90% of them with a single good backhand.

Since we're taking such liberties with our imagination we might as well take it a little bit further and make the girl hot and petite.

I've personally never found Michelle Rodriguez attractive. Too masculine for my tastes. No surprise to me she's never made it big.

[–]trplurker 1 points1 points1 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Ok some basic math for you.

The average male is stronger then 99% of females, this is a confirmed and thoroughly tested number.

Now the Greater Los Angeles Area has a population of 18 million. Assuming a 50/50 split of male, female (I think it's something like 51/49 naturally) that leaves us with 9 million females, out of those 9 million at least 1% are stronger then the average male. So in the LA region alone there are 90,000 females that are stronger then the average male.

See this is the reality of numbers, statements like "90% of", "99% of" are meaningless without a grasp of the magnitude of the population being referred to. So while we can state that, on average, it's unlikely for a women to be as strong as a man, that doesn't mean it's impossible, just means there are going to be fewer. In order for something to be so unlikely as to be impossible you need many 9's after that 99, something like 99.999999% or greater.

Also because you didn't read, or maybe didn't cue in on it.

As long as the women is herself rather masculine and tough then it can work, provided the setting and movie are appropriate for it

If they are going to have an action girl, she needs to be big, strong, muscular and not particularly pretty on screen.

[–]hamsterbator -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for the math lesson.

So there are many females stronger than the average male. Do do you think the average weak male can pass as a superhero or action star?

How many of that 90k are age 18-35 demographic that could star in a movie? Now how many are about as strong or as adept in fighting as your average navy seal? How many are attractive?

Pretty much zero point zero females could pass training for special forces and that one or two that could looks like your average WNBA center.

Michelle Rodriguez may have masculine traits but the idea that she or any other female could take out more than one or two trained guys in a fight is laughable. Statham, Snipes, Stallone, Willis, Bale etc at least all physically look like they could pass muster in a special forces crew.

The whole premise of a female action hero is flawed unless you want an action heroine that looks like a gorilla. The fact that you have to dig down to the 99.9999999 percentile is what makes it so damn unrealistic conceptually.

A female heroin only works if she has superpowers. If she's gonna have superpowers anyway, then why not make her hot and petite?

[–]ioncloud9 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This looks like an abortion. Its a movie everybody knows shouldnt be made, but especially not like this.

I can see the requisite black woman to fill the role of Winston.
