How many of you have things or people in your life which bring you a net-negative impact? Some examples –

  • That car you planned to restore but just collects space in the garage
  • The exercise equipment sitting next to the car
  • “Friends” you have from years back who are negative or needy
  • That stock which still is in the red after hanging on to it for years
  • Employed in a job which takes you further away from your dreams

The psychology behind why we retain ‘things’ in our life which have perceived value is staggering. For most of us logical fallacies about worth or potential worth cloud judgments and we opt to hang on to something.

Here is a new practice for me when making a decision about acquiring or disposing of something:

Will this <%thing or relationship%> help or hinder my goals?. If affirmative, I’ll challenge myself to ask if it was my best friend weighing the same decision about his life, would I encourage him to do the same?

Once you know the answer to the question for the things in your life, man-up and ACT on the answer! Clear out the clutter! Change your stars! Remove anything or anyone impeding your pursuit of your life
