I attend a solid reformed church (of a few thousand members) that practices church discipline. To date each of these instances involved a husband who has, in some form or fashion, abdicated his covenant duties to his wife. Note the public process includes calling out the name of the individual (has always been a male), the sin involved, the step-process of discipline that took place (in accordance with Matt 18), and finally stating that the individual is now excommunicated.

To date I know there are men in the church that struggle with disobedient and unsubmissive wives. I think that church discipline should be reserved for any habitual/unrepentive sin. I also think that disobedient and unsubmissive wives are sinning since they are disobeying God's command for them. One way for husbands to have their God given authority as the leader enforced is to utilize church discipline towards wayward wives.

Question: Do you guys attend churches that practice church discipline? Would you or have you utilized church discipline as an attempt to get your wife to get in-line with the teachings of Scripture?

Further thought.......maybe church discipline was used towards wayward wives and the wife repented before it got to the point of excommunication. In which case I would not have heard about it since it didn't reach the level of public disclosure.
