Does upvoting your post and commenting how you're right put me in the "wasting time for pointless stuff" category?
[–]snobocracy10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
One of the points of TRP is living your life the way you define it. I personally make shitty Youtube videos as a hobby. It doesn't get me "laid or paid", but I enjoy doing it when I have time.
We all agree, a man should do everything that he needs to do to realize his dreams and succeed in life. That doesn't mean that a man shouldn't do anything that doesn't work towards that goal. Just don't let it get in the way.
[–]Disposable_TRP-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's a ridiculous false equivalency. TRP is a source of knowledge built by the community for men. Upvoting contributes to the community in a real way. The post above is concerning how your image is projected through Facebook.

I may be a loser for it but i do read and reply every birthday wish i receive. If someone likes me enough to take some time to do it for me i might as well do the same.
[–]ArchetypalSage9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I actually agree with you. When I used FB back in the day, I used to just make my birthday invisible so no one would get notified. Problem solved!

There are reasons to post things on Facebook or other social media though. For me it gives me an easy way to explain all the cool things I do.
For example, its hard to explain how cool riding a motorcycle is, and I realize girls just know, but having them add you on Facebook and then them seeing a cool video of me riding with some buddies adds a whole new dimension to yourself.
I'm not saying post pictures of yourself eating a burger at mcdonalds. Just make sure everything you post is worthwhile to add to your SMV when a plate inevitably Facebook stalks you

Agreed. There is definitely a strategic way to use Facebook to better your image. It's important to use it sparingly for reasons along the same lines that OP has mentioned.

But there's a little thing called reputation you need to take care of. I think some book with 48 laws even said to guard it with your life. It's the same as business advertising or war propaganda. But like these things, too much becomes annoying; try hard. We call it spam. A small amount here and there, just occasional, fun updates that other people might genuinely find entertaining or educational, what's wrong with that? And it will help build your brand as an alpha when used correctly.

I see where you're coming from and actually go for 'mysterious' myself. Thing is, the root of mystery is some tiny window in. Otherwise there would be no mystery as it wouldn't even be on your radar. E.g. the ancients didn't find wave-particle duality mysterious because there was no such awareness.

I came close to doing this myself once. However there was once an event my friends set up on whatsapp (which I didn't have at the time), and therefore wasn't invited. Everyone wondered where I was. I wasn't forgotten, I just didn't have the relevant social media connection.
I see facebook the same way, just a necessary evil when it comes to networking. If you've got a low connectivity you're going to miss out on life I think. You're probably right that you don't need to post stuff, I just think it can be crafted to be net positive.
So for example if you started a business would you go 100% word of mouth advertising? I'm not trying to be rude or presumptuous here, I'm just genuinely curious.

There is a concept in business called blue ocean strategy, as in a fresh innovative idea where there is no competition. The jump where you make the T-model Ford instead of 'faster horses'.
If what you suggest is being alpha socially, i.e. not needing to compete and shout or rely on a shotgun networking approach, perhaps a blue ocean business would advertise similarly to your social strategy. Word of mouth just from quality, innovation, building a list of high quality clients from the shadows rather than exerting unproportional effort to sell low-grade stuff to the masses.
I guess this highlights the difference in our approaches. I am shotgunning, you are sniping (so I guess the theory extends to politics/war) and we are both right. You are potentially more right though, thank you for giving me something to think about!
[–]altra_hex0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You're pretty much right. I think there is room for some showing off, and a proper/subtle way to go about it though. There's merely a fine line where it reeks of insecurity/neediness.

How about leaving pics of yourself with another girl on your page? Not sure if this will fall under dread or girls will think I have a gf (I don't)
[–]Temptationn5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
every second you spend liking a post is time you could be lifting, reading, working.
Not to be "that guy" but looking or posting on social media doesn't take up a lot of time. For example sometimes between sets I'll look at twitter and reply to something it only takes me a min by then I can get back to it.
But I can see where you're coming from.

Similar situation here - college senior, need to use Facebook because that's where everything college related gets posted. What I've been using for a couple months is an extension called Kill Your News Feed, it basically hides the whole news feed, wich helps a ton. The rest of Facebook is up to you to ignore.

Whatever happens on the internet stays there. If you tried to bring it into a conversation with people, you just comes off as Bragging.

Fuck Facebook and all my favorite bands posting their tour dates and local show lineups. Fucking garbage waste of time.
[–]trp_sf0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Do you only use it for messaging then?
[–]DonBravera0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Facebook can give some knowledge and conversation skills, but you would be 100 times better reading a book or going out, Facebook is like golden corral, a shit ton of shitty food

I deleted my Facebook a few years back. Beta me got disgusted with the validation my ex got from a bunch of dudes so I told her to delete hers while I did mine. Mine remains deleted to this day, hers was reactivated within the week.

every single time this reality smashes into my face when I'm active on those things, now I'm not.
facebook likes mean less than reddit upvotes I figure.

I agree with you, FB is a huge timewaster but the chatting etc can be useful. I found a very good plug-in for google chrome and firefox which deactivates your Newsfeed and is very usefull. It is called Kill News Feed

What about posting your runs or something on Facebook? I do that, is it too much?
What I do allow however is tags of other people's pics because I didn't post it and it is no effort to me.

I've gotten laid due to Facebook. This TRP hate of Facebook.....I just ignore. Social media works wonders for me

I strictly use it to give cross-country family a 1st person account of my life events. LinkedIn has by far surpassed it years ago as a tool of professional networking. It is a tool of nobodies as a substitute for failing to strive/achieve personal goals otherwise IMO.

I deactivated my Facebook about year ago and it's one of best decision I made so far even though all my friends and family are on other side of world from where Iam now. This helped me alot in my development. Just deactivated for week and see how your life will change.

Much more important than not posting on facebook, don't let your picture go up on it. That damn thing is auto-tagging pictures, connecting friend networks, using AI to find patterns and uploading it all to the NSA.
[–]ostroman1989-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
isis won't be using no facebook the masses won't stop using anything.
the best strategy today is just have a stub profile.
[–]1oldredder0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If any person takes any picture anywhere and it's even in the background on facebook it's too late. No account required: a guy 100 feet away got your picture in his picture and it's on facebook. TAGGED. You're done.
No stub profile, NO picture.

This is a pretty inane post to be honest. There's nothing wrong with posting to social media itself. Sometimes I'll post in the afternoon seeing if anyone wants to go out tonight and get maybe 4 or 5 friends to go clubbing with that night. Also, are you seriously gonna criticize the time it takes to like a post? "Yeah I went to the gym, did some studying and practiced learning a language but my day was completely wasted cause of that 1 second I took to tap like". Just look at how silly that sounds.
Obviously the person who spends long periods of time making and reading posts along with liking them is wasting their time, but its perfectly fine in moderation, just like almost anything else in the world, and that should go without saying to anyone reading this sub... or anyone with a brain and a shred of self control.
