CS is still worth it. Make sure to start doing leetcode as much as possible to get internships.

College is worth it if you have a serious fucking gameplan and know what you are going to do with your degree, enjoy what you will be studying, can afford it or can afford to take on the debt, have a way to stay on top of your finances, and have a plan for afterwards.

Imagine taking out a $20,000 loan to start a business but having no idea what you want to do or any direction or gameplan--that's what so many people do because they think they have to go to college. Then you have a bunch of butthurt people saying they got scammed and college had nothing to offer them when in reality they just didn't know how to use it as a tool to better their lives. I'll be honest, I did that too but I was also addicted to drugs and partying so I don't feel scammed, just that I wasted my time. And to be fair throughout high school not one of my teachers ever tried to explain HOW to use college as a way to get ahead in life, just that you HAVE to work hard and you HAVE to go. So I'm pretty sure that happens all over the place and that's why people end up feeling scammed.

If I ever go back to school it's going to be for a purpose that I've honed to a point with an icepick, because anything else is basically a gamble or a great way to throw a bunch of money away.

I started college at age 18, left and fucked around for a couple years and eventually ended up back at school bc I realized how important a degree was for the field I wanted to be in and just life in general. I’ll be graduating at 27 so I’m in the same boat as you but as for my recommendation, yes, I would say go to college for Software Engineering. It used to be that companies wouldn’t even look at your application without a degree. This has only changed very recently because these tech giants were missing out on some great programmers who didn’t have degrees but this is a very, very rare circumstance.

Check out TechLead on YouTube. He’s an ex-software developer with really interesting videos on the subject. Pros and cons type stuff.

only if you’re gonna major in business, law, engineering or STEM. if you’re going for psychology . don’t waste your time.

A career in software engineering is getting close to requiring a degree. I say this because more and more people are doing CS, so more people for employers to look through. It’d be very difficult for an employer to justify hiring you over a CS grad, assuming both of you have zero experience

Go to college and study software engineering if you know you would be good at it and get good money. Passion is overrated when it comes to employment - thats for broke people. Get the damn bag and have your passions on off hours.

When you go, make sure you don't also fall into the pitfalls of having, high car notes, expensive apartments AND student loans to pay back.

Pair your study with entrepreneurship study and develop that hustle mindset. In a couple years, you'll have a degree, the ability to make money yourself without a job and less debt than the majority of people who go to school. Do it, but do it smartly.

Just do a boot camp and start teaching yourself in the meantime. Get to a level where leetcode questions are easy and intuitive.

Im also 23 and am literally on the same boat as you im leaning towards just getting the degree its a safer route and will pretty much guarantee you a great paying job so why not

You go to college for networking, social opportunity, and the degree (as in the piece of paper) to put on your resume. Which is essential if you want to be competitive as a potential employee in the market.

As for education or skills, those are acquired anywhere. You'll learn more about anything through personal study and research than what higher education could provide. Just manage your expectations and understand at the end of the day that is not what college is for. Understand what you are actually paying for.

try out coding more first and see if you enjoy it. if you don’t, dont go to school for it because chances are you’re gonna hate your job if you even get to that point.

If you get a cs degree you are almost guaranteed a job. Go to state college. If you’re broke it’ll be super cheap

Do it. If you enjoy coding, computer science, information technology, information security, cyber security, and computer engineering are viable options. Grind it out. It pays off, trust me. I’ll be graduating this summer. Good luck my future fellow techie.

I was going to go the route that you are thinking of taking too. I was going to get a degree in CS, a discipline I had no interest for but knew was lucrative, and then work a couple of years before starting my own business.

Here's the thing, if you're not passionate about CS and you want to spend 4 years getting a degree, just so you can work in a company doing software engineering. The simple fact of the matter is you're not going to be the best, or even one of the best, students or employees because you have no passion for Software Engineering.

Do you really need the six-figure salary that Software Engineers make? Are you okay with spending 8 hours a day, five days a week sitting down on a desk and coding? If the answers are yes, then go for the CS degree, but if the answer is no, then don't.

If you're not into it, why study it? I'm currently doing a degree in gender studies, and it's the most fascinating thing I've ever encountered.
