my ex did this to me at a really bad time in my life, she played the typical stuff, gaslighting, blame shifting, etc. She also said stuff about my assertivemness, confidence etc and said she wants XYZ, then why did you change me to be someone else only to cheat? (Ik why though) but needless to say she said played the whole women cheat cause something is missing in the relationship. But if I rem her saying if I cheated on her I would be an asshole at the start of the relationship...but then she said she is still a good person when she did it to me.

Society doesn’t decide these from first principles. These standards are emergent from biological reality. They reflect the reality of what the biological mating game is rooted in, and anyone trying to apply a moralistic or rationalistic analysis to them is misguided (most people).

Here’s why: in effect what you are doing as a male in the mating game is trying to “lasso” and bring a female under submission to you. This is done thru male prowess in terms of your strength, physical dominance, social dominance, earning power/resources, etc. Therefore if she cheats on you, there’s an implication she got out from under your control because you’re weak or not on your game enough. In this society it’s basically impossible to keep a woman faithful forever, but at least the subconscious impression in people’s mind is that some weakness or flaw in the guy must’ve played a role in her cheating. And this is in fact a reasonable notion because of that biological underpinning I mentioned where ultimately your male prowess is questioned.

When guys cheat, it’s seen as asshole behavior because women are always seen as a the weaker sex who should not be wronged (seen that way subconsciously even by the most ardent feminist types). Think about it. Do you get more outraged when the top dog gets wronged or the underdog gets wronged? Obviously people sympathize with the underdog being wronged more because the top dog is strong enough that he should be able to take it. Therefore there’s an implicit reading of weakness in the females sex by those who are their most ardent defenders. Which is in fact accurate because they are in fact the weaker sex. Although they do have many cunning and impressive talents and strengths which do not meet the eye.
