Dropped out of College Today. What is my best option?

Ask your school to put your enrollment on hold (medical reasons).

No point in fully dropping out now if they'll let you keep your enrollment on hold for a year or two (and if you want to fully drop out later, you can without consequences).

Go get some help; if you're depressed, you shouldn't even be considering active duty (not only for you, but your fellow Marines). Go see a shrink for a while and do some odd jobs here and there to save up some money and get back in the swing of things.

Don't join Marine infantry. Dudes aren't doing combat deployments like that anymore. Choose some noncombat job that will give you job prospects on the outside.

Join a trade union.

Electrical or HVAC are dope. Building things is an incredibly fulfilling experience.

Trade school. Learn to build or repair things. Mechanic. HVAC repair. Carpentry. Welding.

Like the other guy said, put the degree on hold w/o dropping out if you can.

Identify the skills you have that you can monetize. If you dont have any- get to learning while you do a job to make money(go for sales, the most transferable skill in the world, or trades). Learn the skill- ideally one where you can be your own boss. Digital marketing, copywriting, graphic design, ecommerce, video editing, etc etc.

Why are you restricted ONLY to joining the marine infantry lol? There's innumerable MOS's with way better prospects when you inevitably get out. I wish i could've joined but i have a history of traumatic brain injury. Anyways, fuck college. You won't be challenged or forged into any kind of redeemable human being in the civilian sector of our clown world right now. Military is a solid option. Guaranteed paycheck, job security, food/clothing/shelter. But, I would look into the Army or Air Force.

Start viewing your self worth through you own eyes and you'll see the world of opportunities. Your Mom will be disappointed but you won't care because you spend your days doing shit you want to do. Being the man you want to be.

Once you've done that, it will be easy to decide the next course of action in life.

The 3 options you give aren’t extreme enough. Do a labour job. I hear farmers are totally fuckt and need help the spring planting. Go operate equipment and see technology and engineering with your own eyes. It could be beneficial to your degree if you go back to that

I'll tell you rn that if I failed out I'd probably go the online certification route and try to get hired based off skill which will be difficult but possible.

Are you into coding/technology? My cousin went to a 3 month coding bootcamp and got a 6 figure job offer. I always thought of him as a total slacker bum but he got his shit together and a few months later he is making way more than me.

I have a few questions for you because I was in a similar situation freshman year where I just fell off the wagon after being a stellar student my entire life. First semester I was a below average student but still Bs and Cs but depressed as well. Second semester I got mono and then the wheels just fell off. I felt a similar way to you because I wasted a ton of both my parents and my money. I then commuted to my local CC to finish my freshman and sophomore credits and then transferred back to the school I dropped out of but with a new mindset.

Yes this hurts for sure but it is not a life ruining thing. You can overcome this.

Why are you paying out of state tuition to go to Arizona State? It's not a highly ranked school. No offense but if you had 40k in savings to finish your last 2 years of college, spending it all on one year of out of state tuition/living at Arizona state isn't a smart financial decision.
Are you talking to a therapist? Are you taking any medication for your depression?
Do you have any student debt already?

You already finished your associates, meaning you just need 2 more years of college. You don't need to do anything drastic like joining the marines just yet.

I think the best pathway forward is to first get your shit together, then apply to the best state schools in your state and finish your degree there. You might have to take out loans to finish but with an engineering degree, 2 years of student loans is pretty manageable.

My last 2 years of college at my state school probably cost 38-40k all in.

You could also work during school to offset some of the costs.

I’m in the navy right now, I can promise you that you will make the biggest mistake of your life if you decide to go enlisted. There is no glory or whatever the fuck you are thinking, you’re just gonna get used by higher ups to do their job for nothing in return. Best part, you can’t really talk back either because they can slap you with “disrespect of a NCO, etc”

I did 1 semester of college and dropped out. kept working fast food for a year, and got into the trades over a year ago. Don't know where you live, but look into the union trades. If you're on the east coast cities they're usually pretty union heavy and you'll get paid bank after the apprenticesihp.

Why are the Marines your only military option?

I'd say go Navy, Airforce, or Coast Guard. You're far less likely to see combat and you'll learn skills that are transferrable after you get out. I tell people this all the time. Guys get this "I want to be a Marine because then I'll be a badass" mentality but unless you're joining the military specifically because you want to kill, the other options I mentioned are far better for your well being and your long term goals.

Also, trade schools are a great route right now. We're in desperate need of skilled tradesmen in this country. Everyone and their mother got a college degree and now nobody knows how to do shit. There's great money in the trades.

Last, take this corona break to do some reflection. Meditate and think about when you were the most happy in your life. What was it about that memory that made you happy? It might open your eyes to a path that you haven't thought about yet and maybe your "true calling" is something else entirely.
