Gone are the days when we can choose whether or not we get to be on social media, these days, it is a necessity of our times. While we’re all aware of how social media impacts our SMV in regards to how many Instagram followers we have or how many likes our Facebook pics get, it isn’t just SMV anymore.

You’re screwed in the job search without LinkedIn.

Unless you decide to be a doctor or something, you’re not getting hired in today’s world without a good LinkedIn account. If you’re the fresh out of college graduate who is having issues with the job hunt, make sure you’re doing it right with LinkedIn.

The very first thing any employer will do is google your name and then see what comes up, the first thing they’re looking for is a LinkedIn account. If they cannot find you on LinkedIn, you’re toast. The person with hundreds of connections and well done photo is always going to beat you out for the job.

This is the reality of our modern job market and I know its pathetic.

I can’t believe it myself, I don’t even want to believe it, but it stares me in the face almost every week as decisions based on who to hire are made based on LinkedIn accounts. This is what our job market has come to for most people, your web presence.

Gone are the days of the resume and face to face meetings, it’s all about social media presence now to even get noticed.

I wish that at some time in the near future, it changes, but I don’t see it happening.

How many connections your LinkedIn profile has, how well done your photo is, and how many people can endorse or recommend you means just about everything these days in regards to getting hired.

We’re in an age where we can no longer run from social media.
