Gillette sent me a free razor at age18, and literally had me in their pocket FOR DECADES because of that. I will never buy any gillette product again, and I will view askance anything branded P&G... To me and to those like me, this ad was ruination upon these brands. There can be no imaginable recovery.

They didn't really lose 8 billion. It was a write down, sales have dropped 11 of the past 12 quarters.

While it's nice to believe that this was a get woke go broke this was more of an accounting write down than anything else. No loss of cash flow , they thing that actually matters to a business.

I changed to Barbasol 6 weeks ago. Way way better blades than DSC. They last 4x longer for me. Much closer shave too.

I actually dumped Gillette before that incredibly patronizing and stupid ad. I had used Gillette razors starting from their double blade razors up until and including the first Fusion (orange). The latter was simply great and each blade easily lasted a month. But the next version I got (yellow) was terrible. I don't know if it was the thinner blades or crappy lubrication, it was just unpleasant to use after a few shaves. I couldn't believe it.

To make things worse, it became harder to find good deals, so I just tried Schick Hydro out of curiosity. It gives great shaves for over a month. That lubrication reservoir works incredibly well. The only thing I prefer on the Gillette is the trimmer. But Schick's trimming system works well enough. I haven't bought any Gillette ever since. I still have some blades and I am slowly going through them. I can't believe how much worse they are compared to Schick.

How can such a great product turn into shit?

Add to all this the stupid commercial and it's adios forever.

They might have been losing before the advertisement, but they didn't do the write down before. P&G also mentions in their financial reports that the write down is due to a shrinking market, and that sales are down due to men buying less grooming products, but the core fact remains that P&G did the write down on Gilette (everything else are just words).

Shares are at a record high and adjusted profit beat expectations. They had a really good year, sadly. The 8B writedown charge wasn’t bad for them
